Lapband: Compatible With Prior Surgery?

Recommended Posts

This is probably a doctor-specific question, but here goes . . .

This writer once had a laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair a number of years back. My limited understanding of the procedure is that it involves the same general area of the stomach where the LapBand would be installed. If, hypothetically, there would be an overlapping LapBand procedure, would that present too many risks?

So that concludes my first question. NOTE: I am a newcomer to this board who only started to look at lapband.com only a few weeks back. Quite honestly, I have not dieted enough or made sufficient lifestyle changes as yet, so I will need to do that first. (Also, I'm sure my wife would be upset if she learned I was even beginning to think of this.) Mainly I'm keeping this in the back of my mind if the conservative, non-surgical approach doesn't work as expected. Currently, I fall under the category of people whose BMI is in the range between 35-40, but with a couple other medical conditions that are made worse with obesity.

This will not be a quick fix for me. I'm thinking of the long haul. --TnB

(I'm sorry, this was a duplication of my original post. My internet connection hung after the initial post, and I must have accidentally re-posted while I was trying to figure out what was happening...) --TnB

Having another laproscopic surgery would not increase your risk, I had laproscopic surgery years ago and was banded last Friday with no complications. It was never considered a risk that I had a similar procedure in the past. I also have a BMI under 40, but because of High Blood pressure and cholesterol,my insurance approved the surgery. Good luck to you!

Hi there, and welcome to the boards! I do not forsee your prior surgery having any bearing on your ability to have lapband. Oftentimes, a hiatial hernia is repaired during surgery, as it is a common occurrence. Always best to ask a Dr though!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
