Can You Get Approved For Lap Band Surgery If You Have No Health Problems?

Recommended Posts

I know I'm posting a lot of questions but this is the only place where I can get answers lol. But I want to get the surgery but I have no obesity related diseases. I'm pretty darn healthy. Is having a bmi of 46 going to be enough? I want to lose weight before I develop any obesity related diseases.

Being "Morbidly Obese" is a Health Problem

Contact your Ins. Company, and find out the criteria.

Those Sore Knees that you talked about ? That's one, Irregular Periods ? That's another one.

And you thought you had nothing wrong with you Ha. !

Just make sure you let the surgeon know about these issues. He can only take your word about those Ache Knees, there is really no way to check.

So just start explaining if he asks you.

Because they can help you, if you need them.

Take Care, Shirley.

Actually you could have arthritis in those knees and if so they can pick that up on an x-ray. I have a touch of arthritis in both knees and they were able to see it on an x-ray.

So did I. When I told him I was seeing a Orthopedic surgeon for the problem, he just chalked it up.

I had both knees replaced, and that was do to the weight.

I am hoping it wont come to knee replacement for me. Right now they crack and pop pretty good especially when I go from sitting for a long time to standing up. Once I am up and moving I generally OK unless I do something to put strain on them. I am hoping once this weight comes off the knees will feel better.

Good Luck on that one, I wish only the best....

I have NO REGRETS ! at all.

Mine were eaten eaten away from Arthritis.

Now ,I walk unassisted, I work out in a Pool, and Gym.

I can hustle if I need to, but I can not run ?

Maybe when all the weight comes off, I will be able too.

Will see.

Shirley.

Don't forget, ultimately, after all clearances are done, your PCP must do a "Face to Face" and write the LMN - Letter of Medical Neccesity. This is the document he/she completes and signs, convincing the Insurance Co. Why you need this surgery.

I deal with these everyday and although many are simply check boxes, there is always a place for a narrative. Can also type a letter and attach to the LMN.

Everything else supports this document and is usually done last.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
