Help - Most Fluid Removed From Lap Band

Recommended Posts

I know that the PA will give me another fill. I would like to get back up to 4cc's again. IF, and WHEN I do, if I start to throw up, I will know what to do - go on liquids for a while until I can eat small amounts of food again. This time when I started throwing up, I just thought I was doing something wrong even though I was chewing everything to mush and eating slowly. Thank you, thank you, for all of these suggestions.

I have gained 4 pounds since they took out my fill and put back in 1cc(over Christmas), and I am trying really hard again now that we are past major family time. Have not gotten back to all of the exercise I was doing before Christmas, but I need to, because that helps.

I really, really, really want my fill back.rolleyes5.gifnonod.gif

Well you ladies were right on the money. After the fifth night in a row of not being able to sleep bc I was literally choking on my own spit, I headed to the ER this morning for an emergency unfill. After having IV fluids pumped in I began to feel nearly human again. Of course the ER doc had no experience with LapBands but he called the radiologist, who performed a salpingogram (?) demonstrating a complete band obstruction. He only took out 2ccs of Fluid and even after that I felt SO much better! I got to watch the Fluid going through the band after the unfill - as opposed to NOT going through before! I still have to rest and take it easy but the idea of being able to freely drink Water and maybe even a few bites of mushy food is amazing! The radiologist told me this was the second emergency unfill he had to do this week. He said all the lucky LapBand Drs are on vacation, hah.

Certainly not a fun experience this morning, but SO glad I went.

So glad that you went into the ER. Please stay on liquids for a few days so that you will give your stomach a chance to heal.

I've had 3 cc's of a 4.7 total taken out in the last week. I started having chest discomfort/pain last week after eating or drinking, but the flouroscope shows things are going through the band just as they should. The dr. thinks I'm having acid so he put me on Nexium for a week and then make take a look down my esophagus next week. I'm trying not to be discouraged by this, but it is a definite setback.

After taking out the fill in my Lapband, the PA put me on steroids for a week, an antibiotic and two 600mg amoxicillin for fourteen days. Every office has its own protocol. I am trying to not get discouraged, too. I go back on January 12, and hope that he will put more fill in.

Please keep doing what you're being told to do.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
