Thyroid Issues With Lap-band

Recommended Posts

Ugh! Is there anyone else out there that will share their experience with the lap band that has issues with Hypothyroid. I was banded in June and in the past month I have had some real issues with mental and physical changes. My lab work from my Endo. came back with me needing to change my Thyroid meds to non generic and up to 250 mc. My legs would go weak and cold sweats would happen. I thought I would pass out when I stayed on the treadmill over 20 min. (after getting used to and hour on it). Other personal relations were getting null and void because of no interest No sense of full feeling when eating and to drink Water I would want to throw up------Very,very tired-even though I had the desire to want to get things done. I feel the need for Sugar and more Sugar for any kind of energy but doing my best to stay away. Any encouragment would be welcomed.

I Also have hypothyroidism. I doesn't seem to be affected by band surgery, however hypoglycemia definitely is a problem for banders. Restricted

diets cause blood sugar levels to drop causing weakness, sweating,

fatigue, and extreme hunger (more than usual). These symptoms are

similar to the effects diabetics suffer ( I know about that!) when sugar

levels get low. A small amount of glucose should relieve your problems,

a spoonful of sugar, a piece of candy, some stores even sell glucose

wafers. If this doesn't help, maybe you should see your doctor.

Low thyroid levels could add to these problems.

Non-generic thyroid meds are better. So say several of my endos, because the generics might have slightly different dosages. Once your levels are under control you should feel back to normal. The question becomes why did you go hypo? If there is an underlying cause, that should be treated, also.

My Hypo thyroid is second only to Hashimoto Disease.

My Endocrinologist put me on Armour Thyroid, and for the first time in years, my levels are within normal range.

This is a Natural Medication. Meaning it is made from the Thyroid of a small animal, like a pig or porcupine.

Never the less, it works for me, and nothing has worked for me for years. They put me on Generic Synthroid, and I felt terrible.

I told her I want to see a specialist ! She agreed..

Explained it all to him, and he put me on the Armour Thyroid.

Some people tell me they have a problem finding it, but I can go anywhere and they have it.

Mention it to your Doc. Just to see what he thinks, as far as it's availabilitey. It can even be got on line, at Costco's.

Good Luck, Hope you feel better.

Happy New Year !

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
