Not Losing Weight After Lap Band Surgery

Recommended Posts

am i doing something wrong? I had my surgery on december 9 2011 and to date i have lost 10 pounds. however i have gone to pureed foods and since then have not lost a single pound. i also have 6 cc in my 10 cc band but seems like i can pretty much eat anything if i am slow enough. I hope this band really works for me i have tried everything else and if this fails i will lose all hope.

You have been banded less than a month and you already have 6cc's in your band?

With me it was the opposite.

I did not get anything put in my band until 4 weeks after surgery, and then it was 4cc's.

I actually gained weight after my first fill.

Things really did not start to "Work" for me until about 3-4 months, and 2-3 fills, after being banded.

You are just a few weeks. It is all about healing and getting back to "Normal". "Normal" is the operative word, as in the way you were before having surgery.

Then you would begin the regime of regular DR. visits with regular fills to get to that place where you are comfortably loosing weight.

You're still healing. I didn't start to lose weight properly until more than 3 months after my band, when I got my 3rd fill. You'll reach a point where it just starts to happen :)

After you heal completely (about 6 weeks) then you can start worrying about your weight. You should be losing about

1 to 3Lbs a week, average. Some weeks more, some less. Follow your caloric intake on websites like 'Myfitnesspal',

they help keep you in line. Your weight loss is just about what it should be at this stage. From here on, follow your dietitian's instructions, and try to keep your food intake to about 900-1000 calories or whatever was recommended for you. Weight loss will come. Try not to be too impatient.

i can pretty much eat anything if i am slow enough.

Post snipped by me....

Not exactly sure what you mean by this, but...we can all eat pretty much anything in any amount if we sit there long enough. But that is not the point.

The point is to eat until you are satisfied and stop. If I sit in front of my plate for an hour and a half, I could eat as much as I used to, but if I stop when I am satisfied the amount I ate is about 1/2 to 1 cup and will hold me for about 3-4 hours.

You've lost 10 lbs in 2 1/2 weeks. Of course that rate will slow down, that is pretty extreme. Please relax and heal. Remember, lap band weight loss rate expectation is 1-2 lbs per week average.

I think you still have to heal and should not worry to much yet. I can't believe you have 6cc already. I went to my follow up appt. last week. I was banded on the 16th. I have lost 13lbs since my surgery. He said that I have about 1 to 2 cc in my band. They put some in to check it at the time of surgery. Then on the first fill they usually put 2 to 3 cc in. He said that since I have lost so much total including my pre op diet ( 9 lbs). that I should just weigh myself once a week the next 6 weeks and when I start to slow down then call to schedule a fill.

I am still doing liquids and soft food. I have been trying small amount of foods just to see if I can handle it.

I think just take it one day at a time and heal yourself. Your body has been through alot and it takes time to get it back to normal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
