Lap Band Surgery Compare To Gallbladder Surgery?????

Recommended Posts

I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago and will be banded in Feb of 2012. I am wondering if anyone has had both procedures and how do they compare? I was in alot of pain after the gallbladder surgery and felt like I was on fire! Just curious.....

Thanks

Kelly

I had both done. They were about 8 years apart. I remember a lot of pain after gall bladder surgery and staying in bed. But, I had been very sick from my gall bladder before removal. After lapband surgery, I was up almost immediately, walking around, as they told me if I could, I should walk. In both cases, I was on a liquids diet, the one after gall bladder was not as restrictive as the one after lapband. I, personally, think the lapband is easier, and your life is about to change for the better after surgery!!!!Good luck, Karen

I would agree with above poster. I also think the gall bladder surgery was much harder. However, I recouped from both pretty well and in a short amount of time. The next day I felt fine. The gall bladder though I do remember being tired and wanting to rest, whereas with the band, I was up and ready to go shopping (which I did).

I agree - the gallbladder removal, even though done lap, left me in a lot of pain for two days. The entire first day I spent on the couch. Lap-band was not as painful and I was walking around within a couple of hours and was able to do most things for myself.

Hope your surgery brings good things for you!

I posed this same question months ago, i was recently banded on 12/15 and had gall bladder surgery in 2009. For me both procedures felt the same, I was sore for two weeks, and the pain were exactly the same, the pain meds really helped and only needed it for thr first 3 days for both procedures.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
