Post Lap Band Surgery 6 Days

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I am post op. I was banded on 12/20. I think what I'm starting to experience is similar to post partum depression. It's Christmas and I want some Mac and cheese greens, pastries and all the goodies that come with Xmas. I'm starting have feelings of why have i done this to myself. Today I feel a little out of place. Usually on big holidays I am in the kitchen cooking and tasting. But this year ive decided not to cook. It would be slow torture for me. I needed to band myself. If not by next Xmas I would be 350 to 400 lbs. I was truly a food addict and still am just hoping this band will helps lose some weight. Help I need some words of encouragement.

We're all in the same boat. MERRY CHRISTMAS! food isn't the only good

thing about Christmas. What about your family and friends? We're going to our kids place for a change and at dinner, I'll eat some salad and veggies,

taste a little roast beef and enjoy their company.

A little holiday depression is normal even without the band, You don't

have anything that we all didn't have, some depression is normal with

this surgery and almost everyone has asked 'What have I done?'.

It will pass. At three months out, I'm back to normal and except for

eating less, I'm no different than I was. Just take a deep breath and

think what it'll be like when you have your schoolgirl figure back.

Remember that the band, by itself, won't make you lose anything,

what it will do is make it easier for you to lose on a smaller, balanced

diet.

You can do this! Are you still on liquids? I am about 3 weeks post op and I am struggling with all the food too, but I have to remember that I had surgery because I needed help and so I have to take the consequences that come with the help. Hope you feel better!

HI guys, thanks for the words of encouragment. Now I realize that I'm not sitting here with these surgery scars for nothing. I was so gung ho in the beginning with persuing this surgery (got all my requirements finished in 4 weeks) and now i'm back down in the dumps again. Well I will dig myself out and think about the figure I want (maintain 165lb to 170 lbs). Presently i'm 297lbs. I think I'm gonna do something to keep myself busy so I will stop wollowing in food sorrow.

jennylyn122, after I passed my flouroscopy at the hospital, the surgeon started me on mushies for 4 to 6 weeks. I am ok with it. The food has flavor only thing is that it looks like baby food.

Thinspiration - I was banded on 12/19 and trust me I had a lot of the same feelings today. Just know that next year at this time you'll be a lot closer to your goal weight and you will be able to enjoy some of those delicious foods just in more controlled portions.

Just know you are not alone. I'm such a food addict. I know the hardest part about this whole thing is getting my mind right.

sending you virtual hugs, don't hesitate to send me a message if you ever want to vent!

I have to tell you, I was always the cook of my family, friends, etc. I'm the one that would experiment with food and then hold parties and dinners and over cater with ridiculous amounts of delicious food... I thought I'd never be able to do that again, but here I am only 4 months post-band, and I catered a great Christmas Eve afternoon tea with gourmet tidbits! I think I went for finger food out of my new lifestyle - making finger food for everyone meant that I could have one of everything and not overeat!

This is all new for you. Take comfort: you can still be a part of food and your family celebrations given a little time :)

You are not alone, I was banded on 12/21 and have many of the same feelings. Everyone around me is eating and eating and sometimes it gets rough. I even started to cry in the car yesterday telling my hubby he didnt understand and that I wanted food. It will pass. Everytime I want food I just think of the future and how healthy and fit I will be from all this. Keep your chin up!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
