Any December 2009 Bandsters Out There??

Recommended Posts

I had lapband surgery on Dec 23, 2009. I can't believe that it has been 2 years since my surgery!! All I can say is that I LOVE my band and my new active life!! According to my profile, I am 5 lbs away from my "goal" weight, but I am very comfortable at the weight I am and have been for the past 8 months. My surgeon doesn't think I should lose any more weight. He said I would be too thin in the face if I did. But he does think I need to tone up my stomach and thighs. lol And I agree.

Merry Christmas!! Hope to hear from all you Bandsters!! :)

You're doing great! Doesn't it feel so good to be at goal, fit, and healthy!

I had my surgery on December 19, 2009. I weighed in at 277 on the day of surgery, my lowest has been 152 and I've gained back a few (well, several) pounds and I am now about 183.

The first year and a half was awesome! I followed doctor's orders to a T and then one day I gradually started introducing foods back into my diet that I wasn't supposed to have (carbs, sugar, etc). Since this summer, I have gained back 30 lbs and I can feel it!

For my two year checkup, my doctor found that I have a dilated esophagus. This is due to overeating and drinking during mealtime. I am now on a pure liquid diet for the next 30 days, then 3 oz meals of soft Protein for 3 months. At that point he'll do another upper GI to determine if things are back to normal or if he needs to take my band out. I pray that I behave myself and the band gets to stay.

Getting this band has been the best thing that happened to me. I've taken it for granted though, and now I have to go back to square one with the diet. I CAN DO THIS!

Pen~

Yes, it does feel great to be at goal, fit, and healthy. You have done AWESOME in 2 years.... you lost waay over 100 lbs!!! That's GREAT!! We all fall off the wagon, we are human.

I'm sorry to hear about your dilated esophagus. I pray that you stick to the doctor's orders and get to keep your band. Remember, you got banded for a reason and I know you can do this!! :)

Skeetersmom,

I am sure that another fill will help give you a bit more restriction and will help the numbers on the scale to start dropping down!! That always helps and gives me more motivation to workout and keep my weight stable. Good luck!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
