Having Problems Eating After Removing Lap Band Fill...

Recommended Posts

Hi!!!

I was visiting India last month and thought I should have my band check up as lately I have had difficulties in eating in the morning.and but later in the day I was fine. The Dr. who operated on me in Mumbai recommended a Dr. in Bangalore. On my first visit he told me to come back the next day with an empty stomach...and he checked the port etc all look good except the food canal looked as it had been extended before the port..last min. without asking me he put in a small fill 5cc and it all started. Could not keep anything down.Throwing up all the time.Had done fills before twice never had this problem. So called up the Dr. and the same evening he took the same amount out and felt he had emptied the port...Even after that for 2-3 days I could not put anything down. Was throwing up, could keep some Water down very little. Wow...I was panicking as I was on holiday. When I phoned my original Dr. he thought the port had slipped and ask me to go back for more x-rays etc...and for me logically thinking I had done 2 fills earlier so they must have been more in the port. I discuss this with the Dr. in Mumbai and he said to ask the Dr. to try again to unfill..So after discussions the Bangalore Dr. tried again to unfil and nothing came out..there was a senior x-ray Dr present and he suggested to do a city scan (Think its called that) ...and after doing this the Dr. could remove more from the port...I felt better and could drink liquid Soups, juice..etc..1 month later having problems again. Cough in the night a lot. After getting up in the morning I cannot eat/ drink...what ever I eat/ drink comes up...and at lunch time I can eat small portion....before sleeping again cannot eat and sleep...need to have few hours. Taking my Vitamin I am getting heart burn...as I am not eating properly need to have vitamins..but feel that heartburn even worse...any1 has any advise??? what to do??? Unfortunately in Uganda we have no Dr. who does these operations or can advise. So I will need to travel for any medical help. ohh forgot to say my original Dr. in Mumbai insist that I should have done an operation and remove or replace the port...Maybe now I need to... not sure...Also going to try to start the gym as I have stopped. Please would appreciate any feed back...

This is difficult to make guesses based on the limited information you have listed.

It sounds like you were too tight for a while before they removed the last fill.

And 'heartburn' or a sour flavor after going to bed is often a sign. My own local providers overfilled me several times before I was able to recognize the symptoms. It took several weeks to return to my 'normal'. And I had "first bite syndrome" where I just couldn't eat in the morning. If I didn't take extra care to chew thoroughly the first bite I would be on the verge of NPB-slime-eventually throwing it out of my gullet.

Thee is a very delicate balance between too much food, too fast, too tight, too dry, etc, that we all have to learn how to manage.

Being out in the bush as you seem to be, means you need to get in touch with resources to help tell the 'normal' phases we go thru.

My own Band has survived all my own missteps and I'm still a Happy Bandster.

Ask the forum and you should get some helpful ideas....but we are not all in the same phase, and we don't all respond exactly the same.

Fills IMHO should be small and careful. Any changes I've tried to rush have proven to be a clumsy uncomfortable misstep.

One thing you can do is see if your Dr., or Hospital has a X-RAY Machine for your Organs. This is called a Fluoroscope.

It can view the Band, and make sure it's in good shape. So there is no guessing, they see it all.

Ask for something for Heartburn Or buy something over the counter if this is possible. It will help with the Heartburn, while the swelling goes down.

Good Health to you, Shirley.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
