Hello everyone!! I have a question.... I started the "lap band process" in October and in November I was told that I need to have a physician approved 3 month diet since I don't have one documented in the last 2 years. Is the point to prove to the insurance company that I am a failure when it comes to diets, or to prove that I have the resolve to lose weight and try my best to lose as much as possible. The doctor has not given me an amount to lose, only that the diet,(I am doing weight watchers) is for 3 months. Thanks for any and all help!!!

the docs usually want you to lose some weight before surgery. makes the surgery easier, they need the liver to shrink a bit.

this is a really good way to start thinking as a bander does. no drinking liquids with the meal, eliminate carbonated beverages, start tracking Protein, carbs and Fiber. keep a journal of what you eat, you will be pleasantly surprised how good you will start to feel.

check out all the great entries on this forum, lots of info. it really helped me to get ready for surgery. my commitment became very strong.

the band is not a miracle, we work for the weight we lose!

I'm doing WW as well for the next three months. I've actually been doing it for 6 months but my surgeon says that the insurance won't accept a receipt as proof of my doing the program which really sucked but..No worries what's 3 more months if I live 60 more years at a healthy weight teeth_smile.gif

I hv aetna amd there was a 90 day waiing period requirement. the insurance co wants to make sure that you are serious about surgery. During this time it was required that i meet with the nutritionist and nurse practioner monthly to discuss diet and excercise regimen. Its not required to lose any weight, but if u actually stick to their program you will and besides its getting you ready for surgery and how you will then be forced cold turkey to eat right, so why not transition early on. I lost 20lbs during this stage and another 13lbs on my two week liquid diet required by my surgeon b4 surgery

I did Weight watchers for 3 months, last 3 pounds-total in end.up and down. I did not really follow try to do the points diet tp be honest, it was a crazy few months for me. just need the documentation that you were going , weighed in every week for three months time. I went one a week and go on the scale and got my weight record and my sticker in my booklet, lose or gain. They photocopied by checkin booklet for insurance acceptance. Was accepted within 24 hours of submitting it to insurance. I did loose 20 pounds on the liquid diet prior to my surgery. Had surgery a week ago and I now down 27 pounds. Good luck

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
