First Lap Band Fill Today And Still Vomiting

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 11/21/2011 & went for my first fill today. I had lost 17 pounds since surgery. :-) The Dr decided to check to see if I had any Fluid in my band. I had 3cc's in it. He added 1/2 cc & the saliva and mucus started to flow. He removed the other 1/4, so that I back to the orginal 3cc. However, I have been vomiting every since. Could this be caused by swelling? I tried to take a phenagren, but it came right back up - Is this normal?

To be honest, these types of posts baffle me. I do not doubt your problems, and there are many others here that say the same thing.

I'm just saying it is above my paygrade to understand how 1/2 cc can have that much effect, and to have 1/2 of that removed and still be creating problems.

Perhaps you are very sensitive?

I had my surgery on 9/30/11, and received my first fill 11/14/11 of 3cc's, yesterday I went for my second fill, he gave my 1more cc for a total of 4cc's, I was having pain in my chest, and salivating, and constant burping, and was having trouble getting a cup of Water down, so he had me wait a little while in the office to see if it would stop, it didn't, so he removed a 1/2cc, so now I am at a total of 3.5cc's, hope when I start eating solids I feel more restriction than before. Has anyone had this happen to them?

If you cant even keep down liquids you need to see your doctor...now.

Back to my original post, after 10 hours of vommiting and a page to my doctor, it stopped around 4:00am. I called the dr back and cancelled the early am revisit to his office and have been fine since. I am down a total of 34 pounds, 24 since surgery. wink.gif

I just wonder if the reason i reacted was because i had a Protein Shake an hour before the adjustment. Is there any rule on eating before/after adjustments?

I had this exact experience this week- I got 0.5 put in my band and within an hour returned to the doctor to get it back out because I was in pain! I had not even attempted to drink anything for fear of vomiting on the subway. I had done the 20 minute wait at the office to make sure I was OK, and I thought I was, but after I left I started having a very real pain in both my chest and the middle of my back. When the doctor took the Fluid back out, I instantly felt better. I forgot to ask how much he took back out. I stayed on liquids the next 24 hours with no problems and luckily haven't had trouble keeping things down.

I'm also curious about eating before fills...I had steak and eggs (only 1/2 cup! ;) ) about 2.5 hours before my fill. I've never been told NOT to eat before, just been told liquids after for the rest of the day and soft foods the following day.

Glad you're feeling better melgreen and congrats on the loss!

I just read this on a lapband doctor's website -

Before your Lap-band Adjustment

We would prefer you not eat for two hours before the fill to allow the pouch to empty. While some would say longer, we find no evidence that this is helpful.

Bands are tighter anytime you have swelling -- when you are ill, if you have a menstrual period, or if you have allergies. It is unwise to fill a person during these times -- although we can.

http://drsimpson.net/fills/fill_factors/lap-band_fill_factors.htm

So next time, i will follow these guidelines

I swell a lot every time I get a fill. It takes a couple weeks to go back to normal.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
