Banded 12/16 And I Want Food

Ok so I was banded on Friday and I've been having really bad gas pains and now I have allergic reaction to the glue. My incisions are so red and itchy but I'm taking benadryl and hopefully it will help. I've been drinking Water and my broth and today I was able to start Protein Shakes. But I still want food, I want to chew on something. somebody help

Try having Soups with vegtables in it. Just make sure they are soft and chew them down very well!

anything that is a little different is exciting lol!

Follow your doctor's instructions. There are reasons why you cannot have food yet. You need to heal. Get as much Protein in as possible it will stave the hunger. Eat sugar free popcicles. They help and you can chew them til your heart's content.

I totally hear you on this....I was banded on Thursday, and I am having a really hard time just staying on liquids....the broth isn't cutting it anymore, and the protien shakes (that worked wonders before!) don;t take that hunger feeling away!! My mom was banded on 10/25 and had that lovely honeymoon period where she didn't even want to eat!! I never felt like that except when I was super bloated and gassy...I'm almost in tears smelling my hubby cooking dinner for our 3 yr old!! Cannot wait until I see the doc on Wed and he gives the OK for soft/mushy food!!

I am really hoping I don't go through this when I have my surgery - however, I got this way because I eat whether I'm hungry or not...so I'm preparing myself for wanting food either way.

For me, this is the last straw...getting lap band is my version of self tough love. It's time for me to force restriction on myself. And I know there will be times when I'll have to tough it out and tell myself I'm going to have to chin up & shut up. LOL.

Usually when I'm trying to be tough I chew gum. Not sure what your surgeon's instructions are, but that might help you if you're allowed. Peppermint is a natural tummy soother as well...it might be a good idea.

Just remember: when you see the scale dropping more and more you're going to have so many reasons to Celebrate. I know when I get into that mode, someone could wave a 3 Musketeers in my face and I'd just laugh at 'em.

You can do this!

Hey Texas i am with u on the wanting n eating food for any reason. But seriously be prepared to not be able to eat what u loved before. It'll take awhile to get used to it too. I dont want to scare anybody off with getting surgery so i wont tell anyone how i feel about lapband surgery now but i will say if ur not mentally ready and i mean it dont get it. U need to be in therapy for food issues and i can say thats barely helped over the years. Its just do or die i guess lol. The scale n dropping is what everyone says is the greatest n yes it is great but when holidays n stuff comes its hard to not want to eat what others r n just feel normal with them. But cant turn back time just move forward. Just be prepared for this mentally is all im saying. Cuz i thought i was but i never knew what i know now.

Hey ladies for mushy stuff you can have mashed potatoes n u can add nonflavored Protein Powder to it, i add the powder to a lot of stuff, or try to anyway. Keeps u full. Theres quite a lot of mushy stuff. Even eggs if u cook them then grind them up, since their hard in anyway of going down. n if u get sick of regular broth, progresso has good chicken Soups n u can drain the veggies n chicken out n eat the broth yet have a few veggies if u mush it enough. A nurse told me that one.

I think you should be able to say how you really feel about it...it might help those of us who haven't done it yet. (Although I'm one of those people who isn't good at sugar coating, so I can see how it might be tough to say what you mean and still not rain on everyone's parade. LOL)

One of my friends at work had lap band years ago and has been telling me a lot about what it's like. Something that surprised me was that some foods are too dry to go down and other days...they DO go down. Weird. But everyone's different, too...her experience may not be mine...and probably won't be.

I do realize that I'm going to have to kiss some things goodbye (part of the reason why I've already given up sugar and sweets)...and I'm sure that's going to have its down side, but I've fought my weight for 20 years...I'm over 200 lbs overweight. Something's gotta change...time for me to lay the smack down. On myself! :-)

At this point you really need to listen to to your Dr. You just had surgery under full anesthesia and you need to concentrate on the fact that you need to heal properly. Aside from broth, I would have Jello, ice pops. and hard candy to dissolve in your mouth. You got to hang in there until you can move on to the next stage.

Remember.....you just had surgery.

When I was able to have shakes....thicker / heavier liquids they called it, I was also able to have creamed Soups which I enjoyed.

Please listen to your doctor. I was on Clear Liquids for 2 weeks, full liquids for 2 more weeks and then puree food for 2 weeks, so I did not get real food in my mouth until 6 weeks after surgery and there was a reason for that. I believe that is why I am doing so well without any Fluid. I gave myself time to heal and learned how to eat better because after 6 weeks of no "real" food, things I hated (veggies) I learned to love! Because as of right now, I can eat whatever I want, I just make the choice not to.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
