Preband Questions For All You Postbanders!

Recommended Posts

I have yet to be banded, but have seen quite a few people commenting on being able to tell when food or liquid has gone to the "other side" of the stomach, and has passed through the band...how the heck do you guys know that?!

Another thing i worry about is, how will I know when my pouch is full, how will i know when to stop eating...since clearly, im here for a reason, I ignore my body's signals of fullness, to the point where im afraid I will not KNOW when my pouch is full! I want to succeed, how did you guys tune into your band so well?

Feeling stuff pass depends on your level of restriction. When my band is loose, I can't really feel it. When it is tighter, I can feel liquids sort of gurgle on the way down. Somewhat like a 5 gallon Water bottle on a dispenser. You sometimes see the bubbles as you are pouring Water into a glass.

With food, if I have chewed well, I don't feel much, if I haven't..I can feel it reflux a bit before it goes down. I even saw it on my last Upper GI. Very strange to watch it.

For how much to eat..for me, full hurts. I eat to satiety, then I am done. If I go to full, I am miserable. I have to pay close attention to what I am doing when I eat. This is especially true after my last fill a few weeks ago. A couple bites extra can put me over the top into misery. In our world, a clean plate is not always a happy plate.

You will learn, just be aware of what you are doing, don't eat brainlessly. That is not an option after you are banded. Enjoy every bite. Chew it well. Think about it.

I quickly learnt that not paying attention to my full signals led to disastrous consequences. I have to pay attention to every mouthful and stop when I have eaten enough and no more!

Full is painful - you MUST stop eating when you've eaten your portion and no more. I feel miserable if I overeat or eat too fast - sort of like the afternoon of Thanksgiving when you're just stuffed to the gills. I haven't had a fill yet (got 2cc's at surgery) - so I'm sure I'll have to relearn all my current signs again with the new restrictions of a fill. Trust us, you will feel it and you only have to over-do it once or twice and be in that pain before you say NO to cleaning that plate. I try to just put the portion amount I'm going to eat on my plate and I cut it into tiny bites as I'm making the plate so its done for me when I sit to eat. Also - leave your drink in another room so you don't forget and drink as usual with your meals. That is the only way I can NOT drink! You can do it!! Keep us posted :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
