Hi, Everybody!! (newbie! :d)

Recommended Posts

Hi, fellow bandsters.

I'm Jeo!

I've just been certified into a six month program before I can do the actual surgery. I know that I won't be able to have the actual surgery until September, 2012... or August. Which is fine with me!

I'm looking forward to this hard journey and I'd love advice from post-op bandsters and pre-op as well! Thanks so much!!

Love, Jeo. :D

Hi Im also new and I have a 6 month requirement before surgery. Ive almost completed month 2 with my nutritionist. My surgeon says that my surgery should be in the spring/summer time. I've already lost 7 pounds. I've cut out all soda from my diet. Im allowed 1,500 calories a day. Is there a reason y they are waiting 8-9 months instead of 6 months before they do ur surgery? I'm just curious. I live in Vermont and having my surgery done in New Hampshire so I'm always curious about how other places over the US do theirs

I live very close! They haven't fully explained anything to me just yet but I'm eagerly awaiting my health coach's call.

Oh lol one of my first moves towards lap band was to go to an information seminar. There were people in the seminar that are going for gastric. I also have to watch 4 seminars online and fill out a questionaire for each one. I can't do that until I pay $250 dollars tho because that's the fee. They look at it as people will pay the money if they are serious about going for surgery lol the fee takes care of seeing the nutritionist and all your fills for the rest of ur life or for as long as u still have the band in u. I don't know how the place where u are going does it tho buy that's how mine does it :)

yeah the $250 covers all fills and adjustments for the rest of my life or as long as I have the band plus I can personally email my surgeon and the surgical team plus I can meet with their nutritionists whenever I need to without having to pay and without them charging my insurance company :)

Oh woohoo! You're 19! I was starting to get the feeling that I was the odd man out because the teen board is so deserted! Haha. Welcome, Jeo. It's awesome that you made this decision and it's going to be worth every single ounce of work you put into it. :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
