Nausea After Lapband Surgery??

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I just got banded about 11 days ago and I'm having a hard time eating the things I need to eat. I feel a lot of nausea, especially when I wake up in the morning. Any suggestions as to what I can take/do?? I'm getting desparate :(

Itray,

I am 1 mont post op so not much experience. For me, I finally figured out that the nausea was an indicator that I NEEDED to eat. I don't know if its low blood sugar or a natural way to let me know. If I fed myself a nourishing protien shake or even cream of wheat, the nausea went away. I do believe I was just as concerned about getting everything in like the doc told me to at 10 days post op. Don't worry, just try to get it in. It seems as though I am bearly getting it all in now. Hope this helps

I'm sorry to hear that! I would talk to your dr. I was just banded on Nov. 30 and don't feel anything. All I want to do is eat today!! Hope you feel better!

I think that's fairly normal, really. Just like what was already mentioned in this thread- You need to make sure you're eating. I'm not experienced myself, but my doctor explained to me what I might experience in the first couple of months with the band. I, myself, haven't experienced nausea, but at least you know it's not anything to worry about.

When i do eat something it does goes away in that moment but 30 minutes after eating, it comes right back :(( I just can't wait to eat normal food, no more mush...it's really getting tough to find things that I'm not fed up of already. Thanks a lot for your replies!!! :))

I struggled with postop nausea until I was allowed to eat some Soup. I think mine was from too much sweet, artificial "food" (shakes etc) my body wanted some real food.< /p>

I have also heard some ppl say there is more swelling in the morning, and a warm drink will help open things up for the day...try some warm tea/green tea and see if that helps!

I have not had any problem with nausea, except one small bout and it went away, but I had a friend that knew someone who had it done and had a lot of nausea and she said Walgreens brand Anti Nausea liquid was a God send, I hope it works for you that is the worse feeling ever. Good Luck and God Bless

I am 7 days post op and like you, I was getting naseaus. My Dr. gave me a perscription before the surgery for phenergan, which I had on hand and ready to use. Apparently the symptom is that normal. My team suggested that warm liquids were easier for some to tolerate. I switchedfor a while, relaxed, and decided to take this whole process a little easier and the nasuea went away after a few days. I agree with the reply about too much sweet. It was suggested that I wasn't getting ENOUGH liquids, which (from out put) was easy to agree with. Now I am able to tolerate any liquids and started on full liquids Sunday with great results. My advice? Relax, and like they say...sip, sip, sip. Keep hydrated and the rest will fall right into place. Good luck!

I've heard the same thing about drinking warm liquids in the morning. That might help. Otherwise, talk to your doctor. Are you eating/drinking slowly? Chewing until whatever is in your mouth is basically baby food? Good luck to you, and keep us in the loop.

Ok, so I'm on post op day 19 and it's been 5 days that I don't experience any nausea!! Yeah!!! The minute I ate the quantity I was supposed to eat (and not less) I felt better. So in the end, I needed to eat!!! Thanks again everyone for your precious advice!
