Newly Banded, Very Nauseous, Lot's Of Burping..

Recommended Posts

I was banded on wed Dec 14. Lot's of issues so far. I have been contiously nauseous, dry heaves. Unable to hold anything down. Not even a sip of Water. Called the Dr. on Friday, hey said to come in, That I should not be this nauseaos. So I went in and they said that when the band is put in they fill the band to make sure it's working. But don't always get it all back out. So then they took out 2ccs of Fluid. Felt much better at the time, but went home and still having these problems. This is day four. Seems to be a little better. When I drink anything, I have to be sitting up to make it go down. I hope it does get

better,having doubts.

GRACEFUL

When I was First banded on Dec 9th I was also nauseous when I ate things. But ot will get better its normal, make sure to get warm liquids should help with the nausea. As for the burping thats good! Its the gas from the surgery leaving your body and thats a good thing it will relieve some pain! Remember keep walking!

Good luck, Caroline.

Did they give you any anti-nausea meds? If not, call and ask for some. Heaving isn't good for us..plus, ouch! :(

2cc fill at the time of surgery is fairly common...having to have it removed afterwards is not uncommon. Hope you feel better after swelling goes down.

Take smaller sips and see if that helps the liquid to go down. As a note, being in an upright position is a must to consume anything for me. If I try to eat or drink anything while reclined, it will come back up. Gravity is our friend.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
