12 Days Post Lap Band Surgery And Have Pain Behind Port When I Roll From Left Side To My Back

Recommended Posts

I feel so good all day long now and doing great with eating etc. So just want to see if this is just part of healing process. When I am in bed I can roll over from my back to either side without trouble but after I have been lying on my left side for a bit I start to get a sharp, stinging (almost burning sensation) behind my port. It doesn't happen going from right side to back, only left to back. The site is healing nicely, not sore or tender to touch. Also, it wasn't bad in beginning, it started around post op day 10.

Is this something anyone else has had and if so, idea on how lon it will last? Thx, Kath

I am 13 days in with my band and I am having the pain also . It didnt happen right away but holey moley it sure does bother me now . I cant even sit down without it hurting . I seen the surgeon yesterday at my first post op visit and he said it was because where he placed it when I sit down or lay its right there where my pant line is on my tummy .. Its not a pleasant feeling at all he said it will get better after time . I had to have 2 surgeries one on the second and then 5 days later he had to go in and undo the band because my stomach was so raw and swollen up . I can eat what I want now i have to eat small portions and follow the diet but I am not buckled . Wont be for another month or so .. I sure hope the third times the charm .. Hope you start feeling better soon .. Tylenol seems to take the edge off things for me .. Good luck

it takes a couple of weeks for that to heal properly and by that I mean the fact that the surgeon "usually" sows the port to the muscle. It will be sore and sticking out (swollen) for a while ....its ok. If the pain worsens or continues then talk to your surgeon.

I was banded on the 2nd Dec and saw the surgeon on the 14th ( last Wednesday ).

He said that the wounds were healing very well and I told him that I was having huge problems with clothing as everything seemed to irritate that area and he said it was because I have a short torso. Yesterday it wasn't just uncomfortable but it became painful to bend over, move my body in either direction and even to sit. Although I feel fit and recovered from the surgery, I actually feel worse than I did during the first two weeks after the band so it's a small relief to see that others are experiencing the same thing although if it doesn't get any better in the next couple of days I will contact him just to make sure everything really is ok!

I have my 2 week check up today and will be asking doc but sounds like it is not uncommon so hoping it is just part of the healing process! Thx to all for the responses. K

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
