8 Days Post Lap Band Surgery 19 Pounds Lost?!

Recommended Posts

Beth I know its hard we're all going through, or have been through what your going through. It is so hard to be going through the holidays and not eat the same and delicious things everyone is eating. I was helping my mother and law cook yesterday and it took EVERYTHING in my body to not eat everything, lol. So don't kick yourself because of it, its a mental thing we have that we should change if we want to suceed! The fuel that keeps me going is that in 4 years I will be graduated from college HEALTHY and trying for my first baby and I can't accomplish that by cheating my way! I hope this helps a little!!

Much love, Caroline.

Beth,

Please be careful and don't hurt yourself. We're all in the same boat as far as the over-eating monster is concerned, so you definitely have friends here who understand how hard it is...but you're eating things your new body isn't ready for and I'm worried that you could hurt yourself.

Listen, we all have our emotional issues with food...but it IS only food. It has no real power.

People like us are always sacrificing ourselves for others...that is part of the reason why we're here. "I need to do XYZ for someone...I'll exercise later..." etc. This time has to be FOR YOU. Your post-op phase should especially be ABOUT YOU.

You mentioned parties...don't go. I'm sorry, but you are more important than a party if you're going to be overly tempted by food. Caroline mentioned in her reply that she was helping her mother in law cook...and I know this may sound harsh to some, but I would NOT help my mother in law if it was going to tempt me.

I am in the pre-op/insurance waiting phase, so I haven't had my surgery yet - but I'm already planning the changes that are going to have to be made in my house. My husband is already aware and has agreed that certain foods will not be permitted in the house until I say I'm comfortable with them being back. He's only allowed to bring certain kinds of take out home (I hate chinese food, so he can have a free for all with that...but if I see a pizza anywhere near my house, I'll kick his booty!)

Removing yourself from tempting circumstances and going into "boot camp mode" in terms of a liquid diet, etc...those are not things that have to be permanent. Those are just baby steps that are necessary to take until you make new, healthy habits...

Before you know it, it'll be Christmas 2012 and you'll be walking around a Christmas party looking FABULOUS in a little black dress...nibbling on an hors deurve (however you spell it) or even a small cookie...and you're going to be so grateful that you made a few little sacrifices in the beginning. It won't seem like a big deal to you at all next year.

C'mon, girl, you can do this. Stop giving yourself grief and take control. You are far too smart & strong to be the only thing standing in your way. You GO girl!

Chin up...your new life is beginning!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
