GoBanana 6 Posted December 17, 2011 Thanks everyone! I won't be able to have my surgery until January. Right now I'm researching surgeons that specialize in this. I will be having my entire thyroid removed as well as some lymph nodes and whatever else the cancerous tissue is touching. All of my blood work and hormone levels came back normal so I was very confused as to why this was happening... Until I had an ultrasound and all of that. I really am Hoping that after it is removed I won't need WLS in the end and the weight will just naturally level Where it is supposed to be but I'm not sure if that will happen. Thanks so much for all the support!
LB4Me 35 Posted December 17, 2011 Sorry to hear this. Thyroid cancer runs in my family. Grandmother, Aunt, cousins, sister. My little sister had a rare form at 17 and had everything removed. While she has to take a thyroid replacement med everyday (or suffer her rath), it has not limited her in the least. She is an amazing athelete and the mother of twins. I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery. Find the best doctor you can in your area. It makes all the difference. At your age you want a doctor that works with the whole of you, not one that cuts it out and forgets it. The follow up treatment for cancer is just as important as the removal.
