Suckiest Birthday Of My Life!!!

Recommended Posts

So TODAY I am 50. I've been saying 50 for a few months because I've been getting mentally prepared for it. I'm never crazy about my bday anyway--& doubly not crazy that it's on Vday, which for some reason people think is cute but which is in reality a giant pain since everywhere is too crowded to go on your bday.

BUT what REALLY is making this year suck bigtime is the fact that while re-doing my driveway yesterday the contractor BROKE MY WATERMAIN.

I came home from work yesterday to a river of Water flooding down my street--my frontyard a pool and 4 municipal water guys gathered around the meter which the contractor's guys broke trying to turn it off. The city actually had to shut water off for the WHOLE BLOCK to fix the meter.

I have had no running water since. I bought bottled for my son & I to drink and filled up buckets for spongebaths & to pour in the toilets but it is more than annoying that I can't even take a shower and have to go to work on my bday without washing my hair.

Man! This is NOT boding well for this year.

Sorry guys, had to VENT. It's 8:00 & neither the contractor or plumber have shown up yet for me to yell at.

Huh? 50? Is that a current picture??? I would have thought you were in your late 20's!!! Are you kidding me? I can only hope to look that good when I am 50. Actually, I think my husband hopes I look that good when I am 50.

As for the watermain problem.... use this opportunity for you and your son to be pampered at a local hotel!!! Complete with a heated pool. And while your at it, splurge on a massage at a local spa! Save your receipts and deduct it as an expense to home improvements. It would certainly be justified. Or... better yet, send the hotel bill to the contractor.

Happy Birthday from a much younger guy (I'm 40).

I think you miss-typed your age, it is 29, right?

Look at it this way, it is the 21st anniversary of your 29th birthday! All the numbers in the sentence are in the 20's.

BTW... you absolutely do NOT look 50, take it from a dashingly handsome ladies man.

Hey, it could be worse, biggest snowstorm of the year here in DC, and my furnace broke on Sunday. The replacement part won't be in until tomorrow AM. Brrrrrrrrrrr

Happy birthday! I feel your pain on the V-day thing. For years it was V-day, then 2 weeks later my birthday, then 2 weeks later my anniversary. My ex took to just buying one gift because it was all so close together. I was smarter the next time around: I got married the first week in November.

Sorry about the plumbing thing too. That has to be miserable!

You have got to be kidding me! We are having our driveway replaced. Yesterday the Driveway Man broke the Water pipe. Last night we had no Water. This morning we had no water. They were supposed to come first thing this morning. I went home at lunch. You guessed it: NO WATER.

And this is the Valentine's Day that we decided to grill steaks at home.

Bah! I feel your pain. Happy Birthday!

Kathy

Happy Birthday Kare Bear!

May the cities in your wake,

Burn like candles on your cake!

Well, at least you weren't admitted to the hospital for pneumonia, you didn't have poison oak so bad you look like your face is meltling, you weren't in the hospital having your apendix removed, no body stabed you so you required stiches, your pet birds were not eaten by your room-mate's cat, and your husband didn't decide that was the day to tell you he was leaving, after clearing out your joint accounts.

See, it could be worse.

At least NOT YET!

But you did make me laugh.

Thanks everyone. It's 1:30 and I just came home from work so I could shwer & be here for the plumber when he comes back. He is going to be here at 3:00 to give me the bill. It's a BAAAAAD sign when they want to give you the bill in person.

Thanks for all your good wishes. I'm afraid I'm feeling way older than fifty right now.

But Michelle... do you think you could maybe just LEND me your brother for a night? He doing anything for Valentine's day???

Well... since no man seems to be on the horizon I really think I deserve some chocolate!! chocolate doesn't have calories on Vday, right?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
