Stomach Is Having Major Growling Hunger Pains After Lap Band Surgery??

Recommended Posts

Im day 6 post-op and on full liquids until day 14. For Breakfast at 8 am I had an 8 oz Protein Shake, no problems. Now 11a.m. and my stomach is doing some major growling. Should I go ahead and have yogurt or something or wait another hour for lunchtime?? I have been drinking Water in between meals. Thanks!

No worry. Look up "Borigmus". You'll later have intestinal beasts whining and growling too....for a while. Normal sounds.

My stomach growls like crazy when I know I am not hungry...not sure why but it has something to do with the band. Anyway if you actually are hungry, yes you should eat. Do not starve or deprive yourself...that's not the purpose of the band.

I have the same thing. I try to wait until I actually feel hungry but my stomach really talks loudly since my banding lol

As the others have said a noisy stomach does not = hunger. Mine makes noises all the time, it is something you get used to.

Please don't take my next comment the wrong way but I am a little concerned about you. You have just been banded and a lot of your posts seem to involve looking for ways to eat more, jump ahead of the eating plan etc. I am concerned that you may not be receiving the support that you need at this stage of the process or that your Dr may not have given you all the info on the post op diet that you need.

At this stage of the process it is important that you follow the plan and do not jump ahead but the other thing to remember is that your current focus is on healing not weight loss. Eat or drink the things that you are allowed and do so in sufficient quantities so that you are not hungry. Most Dr's allow foods at this point that are not allowed later on because they are high cal/sliders e.g custard, icecream etc.

The thing that helped me most were homemade veggie Soups with beans/lentils/chickpeas added for extra Protein and then blended until smooth. They tasted like food which all the shakes and sweet stuff didn't.

If you are struggling and want to eat something that is not on your plan then the best thing to do is to ask your Dr if it is OK. If you ask on a site like this 50% of people will say yay and the other 50% nay - but none of us are responsible for your health so these are just opinions.Your Dr always knows what is best for you.

You're in bandster hell right now. It'll probably be this way till you get the right fill. Basically your band is wide open and you're feeling hunger just like you would have if you didn't have surgery. You have to decide if you want to stick to a strict diet(never worked before right?) or indulge till you get your first fill. I'm about 17 days out and I'm allowing myself to eat some Protein shakes, egg drop Soup, Tomato Soup, egg salad, tuna salad or something soft like deli smoked turkey. I'm still losing weight but I refuse to feel hunger. It's so uncomfortable and isn't that why we were banded in the first place. If you have the will power to stay on a diet, then eat only 3 times a day. But throwing together about 4 ozs of cottage cheese with some applesauce(or one of the other options above) seems to satisfy me between meals. Hope this helps.

BTW-This is simply a suggestion and I'm not a doctor and perhaps you should consult your doctor or nutritionist? This works for me but may not work for you?

Dan

Quite frankly I do find your comment offensive and rude. You have no right to judge me and what I may or may not be feeling. I have in no way strayed from from my eating plan per my physician and nutritionists orders. My comments on here asking about suggestions were only to inquire as to see if other people have come up with creative ways of making the food stages/phases more tolerable. I am not seeking to have more food than allowed and trust me education is key especially prior to making a decision to have this surgery in the first place. If you have misinterpreted any of my posts then that is your own problem, but you shouldn't blast people for posting on here and inferring that they are uneducated or misinformed about the proper nutrition phases and how important they are. Sometimes people can find creative ways of eating full liquids and with so many people on here Im sure not everyone eats the same ol same ol and they mix it up a little to share the experience. I was not insinuating that I wanted to skip stages or eat more food. Please take your "concern" elsewhere.

I don't think I was in any way offensive or rude. I was genuinely concerned but because this is the internet it is not possible for you to see the body language , expressions etc which leaves posts open to misinterpretation.

If you are sticking to your plan then all is good.

Wishing you all the best and don't worry you will soon be able to add more variety to your diet.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
