Six Years Later....loving My Lap Band

Recommended Posts

Thank you for your post. It is very encouraging to me as I am only 16 months out and have lost 139lbs and still have 25lbs to go. It is good to hear from people with long term success as that is my goal. Congrats on your fabulous journey and thanks again for sharing it!

Yes, thanks for your story. You told it well. My experiences are basically the same but I am only 2.5 years out. I love my life and my band.

Very cool - Going to be a long road - but I am so happy to hear how much you enjoy it. I am 49 years old and really looking forward to the whole sitting comfortable in an airline seat thing! I can't look at someone in the eye when I go to sit next to them...I just know they are cursing their misfortune!

Chris,

your post was incredible articulate, and I can relate to so much of it. I'm just 3.5 years out and I intend to have this band continue to help me maintain my weight for years to come.

I hope every bandster reads your post.

I so needed to read your story at this time! I've been stalled for a while, but I try to keep looking ahead and staying positive. I think it will take me a full 2 years to hit my goal, so it's nice to hear from someone who did it the same way. Thanks for sharing!

I haven't checked in for a while and your story was very inspirational. I was banded March 22, 2011, I weighed 233 on my surgery day and I now weigh 161. I love my band and I am so glad to know that it's possible to maintain this lifestyle. If you are still doing it 6 yrs out I know I can. You are very inspiring!!!

WOW 6 years! I'm 4 years and love it! People do not realize that it takes hard work after the first 50lbs. Nurses tell me all the time wow you lost 130 lbs...."that just does not happen with lap band" they tell me. It is not a quick fix or miracle but with work you can do it. The one thing I noticed is I was so ready to lose weight but once it was gone it was difficult. I was fat and yes i use the word fat because I was. One day at work I walk by a full length mirror and just start crying and crying..... the fat girl was gone and I missed her. Not today I'm glad she is gone but when you are fat all your life that is who you are and it is difficult to let go. Still today I miss her a little but love my size 7 jeans!

I'm just 3 years post banding. I have lost 9 stone (154lbs) and am very happy. It's not an easy fix, it's hard work but so worthwhile. It's do nice to be connected to others who have been through the same as me. Am I the only person from England on here?? Be interesting to see how treatment differs.

4 years later I have kept off 125 pounds.it was easy in the beginning and getting harder but I will do anything to keep it off including daily exercise and a low calorie diet most days. I will never go back to my former weight.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
