Looking To Get Lapband Surgery....again!!!

Recommended Posts

Ok so i had my first lap band surgery on october 6 2010.....I had my port flip.....had it surgically corrected, then the band got infected and had to be removed.....This all happened by december of 2010.....I think I may be nuts, but I am going to meet with my dr on friday to see if he will give it another go! I was doing very well with the band....I was following the diet and had lost almost 40lbs......but now i am right back to where i started! I know that th band wasnt easy....I worked my ass of for that 40 lbs.....I promised myself that i would never be back at this weight again, and here I am.....I lose sleep over my weight....I am a 29 year old mom of five and have been married to my hubby for almost 7 years.....he is going to go with me to the dr on friday....he is against the surgery the second time as he had to watch me endure the first three surgeries and all the recovery time....never min the depression that followed......but he said that he will be supportive as he can be.....he knows that i am unhappy with my current weight....I have been going to the gym, but now with the colder weather, my ankle is killing me from where i broke it and had surgery on it a few years back.....so I am just down and out!!!! I am praying that my insurance will pay for this surgery the second time around.....I am not telling anyone this time either....I dont need any of the negative comments about how it didnt work out well the first time!!!! Sometimes i just wanna scream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know the feeling. I was banded in 2008 and was doing real good-lost 60 pounds. Then I started w/ throwing up every time I ate. The toliet was my best friend (haha). I went back to the surgeon who heldoff fillking for 3/m. He then sent me to a gastroenterologist who0 scoped me and really tried to get to the bottom of the problem-tried gastric emptying test x 2 but unable to keep the food dowwn. Gastro put me on reglan medication. My primary kept telling me it was "diabetic relaed". For 9/m I went thru this and believe me, I was losing the wqeight to the point of being severly underweight. I started to get severe pains in the stomach and mid back and went to the emergency room. A cat scan was done and the band slipped and had caused a total blockage in the stomach to the extent that the surgeon said my stomach was w/in hyours of rupturing. The band was removed. The surgeon said I coulod have it replaced if I gained 25pounds back b/c the insurance rules have changed for diabetics. PLEASE EVERYONE IF YOU ARE THROWING UP AFTER YOU EAT JUST ASK YOUR SURG TO DO A CAT SCAN W/ CONTRAST TO CHECK THE POSITION OF THE BAND..IT MAY SAVE YU FROM GOING THRU WHAT I WENT THRU.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
