Are we allowed to chew sugar-free gum or have sugar-free breath mints?

I must admit that chewing gum and having the 0 calorie, sugar-free wintergreen mints really helps cure me of the "hungry" feelings.

Just not sure that since I am now banded if I can still have them! Advice please!!!!

I eat those mints by the handful. They're sugar free and I can't imagine they could hurt you, except for the fact that

they contain sugar alcohols, Sorbitol, etc. which are powerful laxatives in sufficient quantity, but for many of us, I doubt

that's a problem :>).

I have sugar free mints all the time. Gum I hesitate bcause if you swallow it you will have a problem. I have had it a few times but are really careful. I tend to throw it out after a few minutes of chewing. CAT

You can eat them. But be careful, my sisters husband is diabetic, so he eats sugar free stuff and he says some of them can be pretty bad in your digestive tract.

My doctor and dietician say no gum at all,,,,it puts a lot of unnecessary gasses in your tummy....all doctors are different so check with yours :)

My doctors office actually gave me 2 packs of sf mints in my free goody bag for the hospital (chapstick, a variety of Protein drinks to taste, a pair of snuggly socks, and a small cooler to keep my Protein Drinks cool in when traveling). And I chew gum all the time. I actually don't do the sf gum - it just doesn't "pop" as well and I'm a gum popper. There's only about 8 calories in a pc of regular gum anyway.

So my advice - yes, they're both ok. I've had my band for 2 yrs and have never had any problems with them.

everybodys digestive system is different, but even one or two pcs of sf mints work like a quick laxative on me. i have no idea if that will change after being banded (dec 13th !) but i dont think i want to find out!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
