Lap Band Surgery On Dec 9....gas And No Appetite - Any Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was banded on Dec 9th. The gas pains in my chest have been so awful. I was given the ok to try chewable GasX which has been helping but I am also struggling with eating. It has been really hard to keep intaking all my fluids as I really have no appetite and dont want to become dehydrated. Any suggestions and/or words of encouragement would be appreciated.

Thanks

Janeen

I was banded on Dec 7th and feel the same way. the dr gave me a small 1/2 cup of Water and said to make sure I sip on it and get 1 down per hour. so thats what I strive to do. yesterday I got a 20 oz bottle of water and made that my goal to drink by the end of the day. If you do that along with your broths and jellos ( which were really hard to get down) you should be okay. Also try to hot apple cider, it comes sugar free and is delcious and help alot with the gas. You can find the powder packs next to the hot chocolate mixes. Good Luck!

The gas pains are totally normal. I had them badly too for about two weeks. Keep walking, and sip fluids. As long as you stay hydrated ( urinating atleast every 4-6 hrs), you are doing ok. I was banded 10/12, also struggled to just get fluids down that first week. It will get better! Much better! And you can take your pain med for the gas. I was taking two percocettes, usually once a day in the afternoon when the gas pains really got to me. Gas X didn't help me. The pain in your chest is from the carbon dioxide, it's not gas in your bowel or stomach.

I think its normal just sip sip sip all day long. Walking also helps with the gas. I didn't have an appetite for two weeks then it came back with a vengeance. Hang in there! :)

If you have pain anywhere, use a Heating pad, and see if that helps. Warm Water will go down easier then Cold, so try Lukewarm, and take your time. When you try shakes. Thin them out a little, with Warm Water

I completely lose my apetite for at least a week after anesthesia so not wanting to eat is veey normal! Unfortunately it will come back!!!! :(. As for the gas - normal too. My best suggestion is Walk, Walk, and also, Walk!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
