I had my band "installed" a week ago. I lost 6 pounds the first week simply because I was starving. I was weak, hungry constantly (which was a huge disappointment). I am much better this week because I can actually eat food. The problem is, I can't survive on 1/4 cup of food 3x a day without being hungry again. Also, I can eat a lot more than 1/4 cup without any problems. I'm afraid I'm going to gain back the six. Should I have my band adjusted already. So far I'm not very happy with this.

At a week post op you are going to be hungry you should still be on liquids or full liquids at best to give you stomach time to heal. You have to deal with the hunger its part of post op they are not going to fill you after just a week you will be lucky if they fill you after six weeks. Your stomach has to have time to heal. Stop eating real food unless your doctor told you that you can. You have to have some control in the beginning. Find something to do with your self so you wont think about food and drink plenty of Water. Your doctor is not going to give you a fill one week post op

Every doctor has their own protocol on how to progress back to real food after surgery.

Make sure you are following your doctor's guidelines as closely as you can. 1/4 cup of food is really not very much. Is that what your doctor recommends? That amount really sounds more like RnY instructions/amounts. Please make sure you were given the right directions.

The first 6 weeks after surgery is NOT ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS. It's about healing. If you lose any, fine, it's a bonus.. but do not worry about weight loss during healing. Focus on recovery and making new habits. At about 6 weeks you can probably start getting fills. And even then, it may take more than one fill to get good appetite suppression.

Hang in there, this will work.. but it does take time and perseverance and patience.

I felt the same in the beginning, it gets better. Try to follow your doctor's orders as close as possible. Hang in there!

I was Banded on 11/30, I've lost 12lbs. since then. But I have no appetite at all. I usually have to force myself to eat because I don't like the bloated feeling after I eat. I have been following my Doctor's instructions to the letter which now I am on full liquids. When I went to my Doctor for my first post op visit, His response to my eating habits were the Band is working without a fill.

Every one's body is different maybe try from my dietitians notes to eat 6 small 4oz meals a day. But check with you Doctor.

Thanks for the input. I am understanding the process better already and finding my way. It looks like not all doctors give the same instructions, so I'm kind of using

my common sense in gauging my own progress. The feedback helps alot and is more informative than any pre-op sessions I had with the Doc. Thanks again all.

There's any excellent website out there, drsimpson.net. He does only banding in Arizona and has tons of information about the band on his website.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
