Had Second Lap Band Fill: Only 1 Cc But Too Much...

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery October 20th, no complications, have been losing weight steadily so far, at 32 lbs lost. My first fill was 2 weeks ago, and they put in 5 cc's. I did well with that, but noticed that I was getting hungrier more often, and eating more at a sitting so went in for a second fill yesterday, not sure how much they would put in.

The nurse put in 1 cc but she had a difficult time getting the needle into the port, and did a lot of jiggling it and moving it around. After, I was able to drink Water fine, but by the time I got home, I was feeling much discomfort in my chest. I was bad, and instead of full liquids, tried a bit of mashed potatoes, and those came back up, and by later in the evening, I was unable to keep even saliva down.

I had a very uncomfortable night, with the most pain I have ever been in since the surgery, so I called for an unfill. By 11 am I was able to get a cup of hot tea down, though it took over an hour. I could tell I was getting better, and knew from reading other's posts that the swelling was probably going down, so I wondered if I should wait and not do the unfill. But since it was Friday, and I didn't want to end up in the ER, I decided to go. When they weighed me, I had lost 6 lbs from the day before.

She took only 1/2 cc out, and immediately I felt better! I am glad I went and had the adjustment. I was able to eat some Soup this evening and it stayed down, thank God. So now I am wondering, could the swelling have anything to do with her moving the needle around so much, and hitting the side of the port? I just find it surprising that only 1 cc affected me so much.I am now at 5.5 cc's and I am wondering if I will need another fill or not. Has anyone else ever had problems after the person doing their fill couldn't get the needle in?

I am had the same exact problem before, and 1cc does make such a difference doesn't it! I just had .5cc fill yesterday and I am not feeling the discomfort during the day, but the nightime is terrible. I am wondering if it's just swelling or if I need some out, just like you were saying! I know what you mean, I don't want to have it taken out and then need more in once the swelling goes down if that is all that it is. It's hard to tell! The doctor didn't have a hard time getting the needle in this time with me, but that has happened to me before also and it was freaky! Keep me updated!

I had 1cc fill on Monday and now I can't eat or drink anything until later in the day. I like a cup of coffee first thing in the morning and have never had a problem drinking it. Now it fill hung in throat. Is this normal or am I too tight. Never at a mouth full until 6:00 p.m. yesterday. I can't even sip Water.< /p>

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
