3 Weeks Post Lap Band Surgery and Scale Barely Moving!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!!! I was banded on 11/18,,, I went from 257 to 246 during my preop liquid diet. Then since one week preop I have been stuck aroun 239/240 for 2 weeks now. I definitely eat much less then before I was banded, and I even started walking this week to work out. Is this normal that my scale is just not moving??

I'm sorta in the same spot. I was banded on the 21st. Lost 14 pounds pre op, 7 pounds since. The scale seems to stay between 236-238 the last week or so. And like you, I'm eating a lot less too. Between 500 and 800 calories a day. It doesn't make much sense. The only thing I can tell you is to make sure to take measurements every week. I noticed that in one week, I lost 2 inches in both my hips and waist. It makes me feel better. Just gotta keep pushing along! The scale will move soon! :)

Thanks! I should def try measuring!!! I hadn't done that because I was so swollen, but I guess now I can start. I get my first fill on 12-19, hopefully that will help too!

I've been told that from post op until we get our first fill, this period is known as "Bandster Hell". The band is not really tight enough to restrict most foods so it's so much easier to cheat or consume more than we will after our first fill. I know I'm still hungry most of the time and it's nearly the same as before when I went on diets. I too eat less but not really enough to make that scale plunge like I know it will after my first fill.

I think you would have to count the calories you are consuming? And are they carborhydrate based? Carb based calories will tend to make you retain more fluids therefore denying the scale to move. You say you are consuming less than before? If you consumed 3500 calories before and you eat half that now, you still are consuming 1750 calories and won't lose any weight.

If I were you, I'd take what you can till that first fill. That's when the action all happens(I've been told and read on these forums). I know I'm eating more now than I will after my first fill and that's OK. I really don't like being uncomfortable and being hungry is very uncomfortable. Good luck and be brave!

I had surgery in Aug. I've had 4 fills and now I'm losing steadily, but not restricted, but satisfied. No PBing. Glad about that. I lost 40 lbs and just stayed there quite a while, but just lost 5 lbs since my fill on Tuesday. Just hang in there. First let yourself heal up and stay on top of your Protein. That's so much more filling and long lasting. Avoid all empty calories.

First of all banster hell will last longer than up to your first fill. majority of the time the first fill doesn't even help. You can suffer from bandster hell until about your fourth to eighth fill depending on you. once you transition between liquids to solid you are probably going to stay teh same. or not lose. don't let that get you discourage. its too early on to allow your brain to get in the way of things. I have been banded for ten months. I am getting to my green zone or sweet spot. I have had six fills and one unfill. So, each person is different and you shouldn't go by what others say. try to walk for a hour a day if possible. you are also going to stay swollen for several weeks maybe in a couple of months.. try to stay away from breads, pastas and rice. also watch your salt intake.. also remember to drink 64 ounces of water.. even crystal like will work.. add lemons to your Water.< /p>

Thanks everyone for the replies! All very helpful =) I think I do need to increase my Water intake and could exercise some more.. I wouldn't say I have a lot of carbs because I'm still just starting to integrate solids. But I'm more testing what I can have, I've had a piece of toast with a scrambled egg, and a the tiniest bit of brown rice with some chicken. I do get full faster but Im sure I can be more strict! Again thank you all for the responses!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
