So Upset - Lap Band Port Flipped!

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill at the end of oct and had 3 ml's put in and I had some complications with the doc getting Fluid to go from my port to my band. They thought I had received a bad band, but thankfully everything worked out just fine. I just went for my second fill and my port flipped. I'm do upset right now. The radiologist tried so hard to flip it with no sucess. Im seeing my surgeon on Monday. So my question is what happens now? I'm terrified to go back under general anesthesia. Has anyone had this experience? What happens????

I was banded on 11/28 and I have to agree on the anesthesia(still very fresh in my mind). Recovering from all the drugs they put in your body is so stressful. I do not ever want to go back there again.

It can be done with twilight sleep and local anesthesia. That is where they give you wonderful IV drugs while they are numbing you up but if they talk to you you can still answer. It will be sore ish because of having to cut the skin again and restitch the port back onto the muscle and the muscle will be mad. There is no reason for them to enter your abdomen or inflate it with gas.

Best wishes, Mimi

Thank you both for your kind words. I had such a mindset of being on the path to weight loss (because I have no restriction from my last full) it just literally broke my heart when I was told my band flipped.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
