Wish Me Luck...having Lap Band Surgery Tomorrow Morning

Recommended Posts

WOW, ok..the surgery hurt a bunch...but even now, 2 days later I am feeling much better. Those gas pains are...well, not to be described! I found in my case, walking made it worse and flat on the bed better...also taking Bentyl helped a lot. I have had broth, Water, tea and jello....no issues. Port site hurts the most and I am bloated and swollen...but seems to be going down. Went up 5 lbs, but that should be all IV fluids...peeing like a horse lol. Do ot stop taking your pain killers! Take them like clockwork to prevent the pain from building...easier to manage that way.

Congrats on your new journey! What did they give you for pain? My doc recommended the gas x strips that melt on your tongue.

I asked for Deloted (sp) 2mg...I take one pill every 2 hrs instead of 2 every four....it keeps me comfortable, not pain-free.

As for the Gasx strips...over priced gimmic....buy the generic pills or chews...they have 2x the active ingredient and cost much less...it will help some, but nothing will prepare you for or solve the post-op gas pain you will likely experience. Just going to have to suck it up I am afraid....

I found a watery cream of wheat day 3+ makes me feel better than Jello or any cold liquid....I will be thinking of you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
