Lets Talk Water, Water, Water!

Recommended Posts

Okay everyone. Please help me understand why we need so much Water. I understand our bodies are made up of water and we need water to hydrate our bodies. I can drink water but have a difficult time drinking what is 'required' of me. I was told Ice Tea won't count towards waters because its a diaretic. I retain water so why do I want to hold onto water? Please help. Thanks!

If you are drinking enough Water to be peeing dilute (light yellow) urine several times a day you are fine.

As it was explained to me, Water, beside keeping your body hydrated, will regulate hunger and help prevent

constipation. We were told to try to drink about 64 oz a day. Of course, how much you drink is up to you. After

you're on solid foods, thirst should probably be your guide. coffee and tea

are diuretics, but you still get water from them and they count about half,

depending on the strength, of their volume in water towards your total.

It doesn't have to be Water. Other fluids count too - most nutritionists forget to mention that. I only drink water when it is really hot, other than that I drink tea, no sugar and a dash of fat free milk. I am not dehydrated.

It's difficult at first, but if you drink the required amount eventually your body will crave it and you'll have an easier time. I drink mostly plain Water but I'll mix it up every once in a while with Vitamin Water Zero so I don't get too bored. I try not to drink my calories except for coffee.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
