@tandi04, you can do it! It IS hard, I know, but it truly does get easier. I'm on day 8 now and really, I've never felt better. Yes, I"m hungry, but I feel great, my mind is clear and my body is on it's way to better health. I had an appointment with my surgeon yesterday and he asked how the liquid diet was going and I told him that it was mentally the hardest thing I've done, letting go of the food. So much of this liquid diet is psychological. (By the way, my doctor admitted he's never tried one of those nasty Protein Shakes. I told him that that all of the doctors should go a week on them, so they can relate to what we're talking about. He just laughed.) Keep your chin up and think of the end result. This couple of weeks is just a drop in the bucket in the big picture. :)

The preop diet is brutal but I told myself it was the last diet I would ever be on and it was! Hang in there!

I have been drinking the Water but Jello and sugar free popsicles and sugar free throat lozengers really really help. so far one maybe 2 a day, if that. coffee in morn with vanilla shake for flavah! and one day it was so cold I did do the broth. If it stays the same... I will be fine. just the after taste in my mouth is enough NOT to be hungry. blahh SOOO

I did shakes for lunch and did applebees Soup and salad for lunch then shake for supper. The lunch portions are really small. This worked really well for me. The day before my surgery I had all Clear Liquids and I was banded on wednesday. I have not been hungry since. I have 2 more days of clear liquids, the hardes thing I find to get down is the Water, I do much better with heated chicken broth or hot apple cider. Try the cider its found next to the hot cocoa mix. It is excellent and it will get you through. Good Luck!

My whole "not planning on cheating" blew up in my face. Last night I had a Greek salad and today I had a veggie bugger. I figured if I was going to cheat, I might as well pick something healthy. My surgery is Tuesday... in my twisted brain I reason with myself by saying, "I have 2 full days to get back on track and just do shakes, it won't hurt anything." The good thing is that I AM back on track! Tomorrow is a new day.. and then Monday is clear liquids only. I feel so guilty for cheating, but glad I made smart choices. Has anyone else cheated?

I'm on Day 3 of my pre-op diet. The first day was rough, (really tired & had a migraine!) but the past two days seem better. My first week of the diet, allows 2oz of lean Protein & 1/2 cup veggies for two meals. I'm really bored with chicken & fish. Anyone have any other meal ideas?? Are Beans or cheese okay?? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

Day two of my 6 day crash diet on Optifast, before my surgery on Friday (12th). This stuff sucks 001_huh.gif but I am trying to keep a big picture point of view on the whole thing. I had some chicken breast strips yesterday and a no sugar added fudge-sickle so I hope that doesn't affect the goal here. I also had a 1/2 cup of no-fat cottage cheese and 1/4 cup of sugar free apple sauce this morning. I don't think that will hurt anything, but my head was killing me.

I am doing okay right now, still a minor headache and actually have two shakes left so I am going to try and push through without any other foods tonight. Good luck to everyone, I love reading what others are doing and getting support here.

Luckily I only had to do the pre-op liquid diet for 5 days. I purchased one of those Magic Bullet mini blenders and survived mainly on smoothies. It's great because it makes single servings so you don't end up with a big blender full of smoothie. I soon became the queen of smoothies! They were actually really good and I still drink them. Some of my favories are:

chocolate banana smoothie - chocolate Protein powder, milk, ice and 1/2 a banana, stevia (also try adding 1 T of Peanut Butter for chocolate Peanut Butter banana smoothie, yum!)

pineapple Smoothie - LF vanilla yogurt, ice, pineapple chunks, stevia and a little Water and benefiber

strawberry shortcake Smoothie - LF vanilla yogurt, ice, strawberries, stevia and a splash of vanilla extract

Hang in there! It does get better!

I am on day 9. My surgery is the 15th. I was grouchy Friday. Someone called me the Grinch. Today has been fine. The first few days is rough. I have stuck to it but one day. Christmas party. I paid for it the next day. So far I have lost 15 pounds. Someone asked me, then why have the surgery? I said I had been on every diet and always gain it back. So this will be worth it. I am doing the Oh Yea shakes. They are great 32 gm of Protein. You can get them at GNC or on line.

I am on day 3 of my pre-op liquid diet. I tried to start on Friday since I'd had my upper GI that day and my stomach was empty. By that evening I had the WORST headache and I ended up breaking the diet. I started over the next morning and thank goodness I have not have a headache since. I hope I am following the diet correctly (protein shakes, apple juice, Water, low fat strained creamy Soups, sugar free hard candy, sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding). I am not sure how much I should have of this stuff. I have just been trying to eat according to the serving sizes but it does not feel as if it is enough. I am waiting to hear back from my doctor's office for clarification. How many Protein Shakes can I have per day? Am I supposed to start tracking my calories and Protein grams now? Any suggestions until I hear back from the doctor?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
