Before The First Lap Band Fill

Recommended Posts

How long before the MD gave you your first fill? I had surgery on Nov 22, and will not get a fill until January 9. I have started regular food, mostly soft. I am finding that I am not satisfied with the 1/2 to 3/4 cup that they want me to eat. I don't think I can make it through another month without regaining everything that I have lost. I had lost 16 lbs, but have gained back 3.

I'm just really frustrated right now.

Hey there. I had surgery the day before you. I will not get my first fill until January 3rd (if I need it...I'm hoping I don't!) so I don't think the amount of time you have to wait is abnormal. I do not find myself hungry in between meals. My advice to you is to focus on Protein at this point. Protein keeps me satisfied between meals so I don't snack. Also, watch your serving sizes. Stay within the serving size guidelines and track your calories, fat, carbs, and protein. Just for some ideas, I'll list what I typically eat and the schedule I eat it on.

Breakfast (8:30): Yogurt or SF Carnation Instant Breakfast. You could also have a scrambled egg with some cheese on top.

lunch (12:30 or 1:30): A serving size of FF refried Beans (which is about 1/2 a cup), mixed with FF cheese, Low skim ricota cheese, and FF sour cream. It is VERY filling and VERY yummy. Plus, lots of protein!

dinner (5:30 or 6:30): If I did not have my SF Carnation Instant for breakfast, I'd have it for dinner. If I did, I'll have another serving of my FF refried beans.

Sometimes I'll have a SF popsycle. I am still in the mushy stage (progressing to soft foods tomorrow). Starting tomorrow I plan on incorporating tuna and chicken salad with Low Fat mayo.< /p>

Well, hope this helps in some way! I suggest making sure you get AT LEAST 50 grams of protein in. It should help with the hunger. Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
