horsegirl315 114 Posted December 5, 2011 So im on my way home from my second sleep study, did not sleep yet again. I try too hard and then start to freak out and end up sleeping an hour or two...has anyone come across this problem?? The second time I even took two sleeping pills, and they didn't make a difference. How many tines am I going to have to do this with the same result before my Dr office says forget it? It's incredibly frustrating. I can't wait to call the Dr office and ask...NOW WHAT?!
Sleeved&Hopeful 182 Posted December 21, 2011 I am somewhat confused about the sleep study. If you have sleep apnea or a sleep disorder, wouldn't they think that weight loss surgery would help with that? I don't understand. Did they tell you what "failing" means? Does that mean if you have a sleep disorder you can't get lapband?
Dulci 108 Posted December 21, 2011 If you fail to sleep enough for the techs to have enough data to evaluate, they say you "failed" the study. If you don't sleep, they cannot give you a diagnosis nor can they rule out any kind of disorder.
horsegirl315 114 Posted December 21, 2011 Yes, the actual results of my sleep study were...I didn't sleep enough to yield any results! After this post, I was scheduled to meet with the sleep Dr, who had me do some breathing, measured my neck, etc...he then told me he does not believe I have sleep apnea, and since he is affiliated with my surgeon, would write him a letter saying so. He offered an at home sleep study, just to be sure, which I agreed to. Unfortunately, my insurance does not cover at home sleep study, so the letter is what got me through clearance for surgery. A diagnosis does not change whether you get the surgery or not. It helps your Dr create a plan for your recovery. If you do have sleep apnea, you must wear your cpap mask during recovery, or risk respiratory failure
