What If I Get This!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I work in the school system so I am with Kids everyday, all day. Heres the problem.........THE STOMACH FLU. AGGG yes the kids are starting to get sick and you know how fast the stomach ful gets past around. I am scared to death to get it. I am afraid to throw up like that. I talked to a friend that has been banded for about 2 1/2 yrs and she say she hasn't gotten sick since she has been banded so had no advice. What do you all suggest. I know all about "Washing my hands" but when you are helping students you can't help but be right down near there faces and germs get pasted.

I just dont want to vomt ( sorry about that) and have my band slip!!!!!!!!

Go and get a shot of maxolon or similar from your Dr to prevent you throwing up.

Thanks, I get a flu shot but this is not the flu its a stomach flu and thats different.

I have never heard of a shot to keep you from throwing up??? Will have to check that out. Thanks!!!!!

I might give my Drs. office a call and see if they have suggestions. I hear this is a bad virus that last for about 24 hrs.

My surgeon advises an unfill for teachers during stomach virus time at their school. Getting sick with stomach virus can cause a slip. I know because I had one just in October. Good luck and best wishes for getting past stomach virus season. Karen

I have thrown up plenty and never slipped...my doc did sew my band in place though. Getting unfilled for flu season sounds ridiculous to me!

Getting unfilled during flu season does sound a bit crazy to me. That's why they have the flu shot.

I am a dental hygienist and deal with people's spit every day and don't get the flu and would never get an unfill like that.

Stomach flu is actually the Noro Virus and it does spread easily. Only bleach kills it so you might want to keep your work area wiped down with a 1:10 mixture of bleach and Water. That's what we do in our skilled nursing facility and it really helps. Hand sanitizer does not help this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
