The Lap Band Didn't Work For Me?

Recommended Posts

Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated. I had my band put in about 8 years ago, never lost the weight I thought I would and after the first two years they suggestioned this sometimes happens. So, it has been a number of years now and I joined WW and I am doing pretty good, have lost over 10% of my weight and feeling good. Problem is, in the last 3 months I have had 2 awful (and I mean god awful) bouts with gas that have actually kept me our of work even and lasted several days. Cold sweets, just too uncomfortable to do anything but lay in bed and moan. Just gut wrenching (no pun intended.) I am guessing the less food I am eating is causing this, but I have to say these two times have never been like anything I experienced in the past 8 years. Not anything like the first two years either, which I remember, if I acted up, it would be uncomfortable I seem to be imune to the gas relief pills and tried drinking boost for several days in hopes of creating diahera. Anybody experience such a thing? Any ideas? Any ideas would be appreciated.

You probably should see a GOOD WLS doctor soon. You shouldn't be having those problems. It sounds as though your

band has slipped, eroded or you may have developed GERD, all of which need medical attention. You need to either get to

an ER, or make an appointment tomorrow. Please take care of this immediately. I hope it turns out well for you.

could even be gallbladder issues.

I should have mentioned, the first time I did see a doctor, experienced with the band, and also they took xrays, found nothing but I do remember them tapping on my belly and amazed at the amount of gas I had in there.

As part of your Weight Watchers diet, have you recently switched to Sugar substitutes? I find that when I eat foods that contain Moltitol, Sorbitol, or other Sugar alcohols in any kind of volume, I get gut wrenching gas pains like the ones you described.

I am in agreement that you should consult with your doctor, but if this is the case, you might try limiting those foods to see if it helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
