I am Pre-Op but am wondering how much physical contact the Port area can take after recovery. I do mixed martial arts training for exersize and while it is not full-on combat, I do have to get pretty physical and could take some shots to the port area...does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm a year out and mine is still tender. It hurts to lean against the kitchen counter sometimes...especially the first week after getting a fill. Not everyone's is tender but mine certainly is.

When mine is partially full - full. I can't sleep on my stomach at all. If I am Filled Tight ! I can't even sleep on my left side.

I would be concerned about a direct kick or hit at that Port. Remember it is only plastic tubing glued into place. (New Plumbing...) So please be careful...

I am two years out and my port is also tender to the touch. And one deterrent to over-eating is that my port will really hurt if I overeat! I can't imagine taking a hit to the port at all. Good luck.

Thanks for the input guys. That is obviously not what i was hoping to hear but it is helpful to be able to manage my expectations as far as what i will be able to do post op.

My surgeon seemed to think that I could go back to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training after the surgery. I'm almost 4 months out and not sure yet if I'd be able to do it. My port doesn't hurt from pressure like leaning, but I'm definitely aware of it. Especially - as someone mentioned above - if I overeat. I'm going to give BJJ a try early February when my daughter goes back to school and I can do day classes. Here's hoping!
