I received my band on 11/30. I had horrible back pain for the first 24 hours or so but that has subsided. Still have discomfort around the incisions but i was expecting that. Getting out of bed is tough because no matter which way i move it hurts the wounds. Im also having terrible dry mouth but i am guessing that is from the pain meds.

I have been sticking with gatorade, home made apple sauce and Protein Shakes so far.

Im so glad i had the operation. 3 weeks before my surgery i was laid off and lost my health insurance. I was devestated! But i talked with the hospital and they signed me up for free care. The whole procedure cost me nothing!

We were banded the same day! I too am having back pain (gas) and pain at the port site. Take the drugs!! I was told only Clear liquids at this point till tomorrow when I can add protien shakes, strained Soups, etc. The apple sauce might be too chunky right now?!

Sip sip sip on that Water to get rid of the dry mouth, I don't want you to get dehydrated!!! I would skip the gatoraide as it is high in sodium and my cause dehydration with so little food intake.

You are so lucky to get the band without health care and for FREE!!! Treat it right and you will feel so much better soon!! :) We can do this together!! <3

I too had was banded on 11/30. My problem has been dry heaves! I had to in and have a cat scan to see if the band had slipped but it was still in place forunately!! They gave me a nausea patch that has done wonders but can't take any pain meds other then liquid tylenol which I dont like the flavor so no pain meds for me. I'm glad it over and hopefully we all will be on the mend and thinner soon.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
