Tricare Insurance (north Region) Question

Recommended Posts

If anyone has had Tricare (North Region) can you please help me. I am totally confused. I understand that I would not need to have a medical supervised weight loss before surgery if I can document that I have done so in the past. My insurance person at my health facility is telling me that it is a requirement for Tricare. I am stressed as I am just starting this process and I really need your advice. Thanks.

Hello! I have tricare north as well and I am waiting for approval. You are not required to have a supervised diet. All I had to do was have a referal from my PCP, a psych evaluation and of course the things your surgeon requires. It's simple with tricare :)

I agree 100%. I am also a Tricare (north) Prime patient and did not do a 6 month diet. It was a fairly easy process and I'm so happy that I did it. I was banded 11-3-11 and am down about 32 lbs!

I am Tricare Prime south region - I did not have to have 6 months diet either..Just the blood test, psych eval and the other stuff the surgeon required. The process was very simple. I was banded 7-7-11 (with Plication) and I am down 75 pounds with 40 more to go. Good luck with your journey and hope things get a bit easier for you...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
