Doing Research- How Do I Find The Best Lap Band Doctor?

Recommended Posts

I've read several posts on this site recommending we find a Center of Excellence. But no one has said how to know where they are. Fortunately I live near Los Angeles, so I'd like to find the best doctor (since there are a lot of options).

I would love advice on how to find the right place to start.

Anyone North of LA in San Fernando Valley or Conejo Valley- I would love referrals.

Thanks!

You need to see Dr David Davtyan (LA office: 310-652-1777), he is a cancer and bariatric surgeon.

He saved hundreds of lives, Dr Davtyan offers the best aftercare in the Los Angeles area, see one his patient testimonials:

"...Now 6 months later, I am well on my way to my goal weight. I have lost 60 lbs. All of my diabetes is gone along with high cholesterol, fatty liver and high blood pressure. I can run up and down the stairs and walk for miles with no heavy breathing. I am almost ready to shop in "regular" stores. I don't buy "old lady" clothes anymore. I sleep in my own bed and don't wake up every few hours. But not only have I lost weight, I still go out with my friends and eat what I like. I just eat a lot less of it. I don't have to "sacrifice" anything. My body lets me know when I have had enough and I listen. I have my life back. And I owe it all to Dr. Davtyan and his fantastic staff of caring personnel. I am not a "patient". I am a member of their growing family. If you are looking for a way to get your life back, call Dr Davtyan. I have see a miracle."

I am also pretty sure Dr Davytan is the guy who has a lap band himself! I almost went to him but even though I was a self-pay I thought I should try to find someone on my provider list in case there were complications. I went to Dr David Oliak In Orange (he has two other offices, one is in Brea) anyway I LOVE him and all his staff! They were great and I dont have any complaints at all.

Dr, Oliak stitches your band in place and has never had a slippage! I cant say enough about him or his staff! Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
