Worried About Lap Band Slippage And Need Answers

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I was banded on November 9th. I went back for my 1st post-op and had lost 10 pounds and was put on pureed food but I seem to be eating more than before ( was really burnt out on the liquids-- 4 weeks was enough). I don't feel I have gained any weight back but I have read about band slippage and I pray that is not what has happened. I get to the point of where I feel full and my meal size is much much less than wha tI was eating before. Is it normal that I am able to at more now. I go back to my doctor on the 8th or should I try to see him before then.

PLEASE HELP I AM REALLY WORRIED.

I just had surgery 9 days ago, but this is what I've gathered from the posts on here: You can eat less at first because your swollen. Once you start to heal, you can eat more. The bands either have very little liquid in them or none at the time of the operation. Once you start getting fills, you should start feeling restriction. I could be wrong, but that's what I gather. Don't worry! I'm sure you are fine! :) Good luck!

I had surgery in Jan and I lost a TON of weight at first and now I can ea like crazy... It is normal to eat more until you get more fills... Since I lost weight so fast I am 'behind' on my fills and feel that I can eat quite a bit. Also I have been told if your band slips you WILL know it. You should be ok until you see your doctor. If it makes you feel better it never hurts to call someone at the dr.s and ask

Please no worries, after surgery everything inside is all swollen, soon it will be normal and you will be eating everything again, just like before the surgery. It will be this way until you get a few fills.

Anymore questions, feel free to add as friend and pm me

Normal....when I was put on pureed foods I could eat very little and was full. Now I can eat much more. Not as much as pre-band but much more than the beginning of post-band....your doing just fine!

I was seriously about to ask the exact same question when I saw your post! I was banded on Nov. 8th and lost 12lbs in the first 2 weeks. I got full on just a few bites of food. Now, while I don't eat as much as I used to, I am eating more and still don't ever feel full, I just stop so I don't over eat. I haven't lost any weight this week and I was hoping I hadn't done something wrong. Glad to hear it's normal!

I think its normal. I lost 11 lbs in the first two weeks and then stalled for about two weeks. Im finally starting to see the scale move down this well. I was banded 10/27 and feel great now that I just had my first fill yesterday. Hang in there, it gets much easier.

My surgeon told me that if your band slips, you can't swallow your own spit. My guess is your swelling has gone down since your surgery so you're going to be able to eat a little more. This is a great time to practice eating very small bites (eraser size), eating slow, chewing very well, etc. Don't drink 30 min before or after your meals. Your surgeon may or may not have put in Fluid in your band during surgery....you'll find that out when you have your first appt.

I'm about 11 months out so I'm not an expert but I've been through what you're going through now. It's all very overwhelming and 100% of your life's focus in general. It's perfectly normal. When you hear people say 'this is a journey'....it is. The first month or so after surgery is totally different than six months from now. You've got to practice getting good at living with the band. The new phases of your diet from liquids to mushies to real food. Seeing your doctor regularly, getting fills, adjusting to your new life. Trust me, it's all great but it's a journey. I'd like nothing more than to be at my goal but that's not the case. Everyone is different....don't get wrapped up in how much fluid you have in your band compared to someone else...it means nothing. You are you! It can take time to get the right amount of restriction to where you're eating a very small portion but staying satisfied for a few hours. It's a process and it simply takes time. You'll be amazed with what you learn about yourself over the next several months. Good Luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
