Experience With Tricare West And Lap Band ?

Recommended Posts

I have had a life long battle with the chub. I have been at my biggest for the past 12 months. I was at 220, now at 206. I'm 5'3 and have not even talked to my doc about lap band yet. I will tho. I have an appointment in a week. Currently, he has me on Phenterimine and see's me every two weeks. But I've played this game all too many times. Diet pills, lose weight, no diet pills, gain weight back + tons more, etc. Its a vicious cycle.

I'm hoping this is a safe and effective salutation to my life long problem.

I have Tricare West insurance. Is there anything I need to know before bringing this up with my doctor? Do any of you have experience with TriWest?

All suggestions welcome!

Thanks!

I'm not entirely sure but is it possible you weigh too little to get it done? What I'd do to be that weight again! lol! Have you ever tried doing Walk Away The Pounds DVD's with Leslie Sansone?

I had Triwest for my lap band one of their main requirements is being 100 pounds over weight other then that it was pretty straight forward. If I remember correctly it should say in the Triwest handbook thing. I can't find mine atm to look for you. Good luck!

I have Tricare too, and was approved for my surgery to happen 12/13/11. I had to have a BMI of 40 or 35 with a chronic condition ie diabetic. They required me to go to an information meeting, see a psychcologist, and a dietitian. My first Dr appt was in October, and I will have the surgery in under two weeks. They are one of the only insurance companies out there that dont require the six month diet. I was approved for the surgery on the first request.

Violet, I've tried and still trying a multitude of things. I do an hour of cardio 5 days a week. Have been for over a yr now.

Jamielynnkayla- Thanks for the info! smile.png Like I said, I haven't brought it up to my doc yet, but I will next week. We shall see how it goes and what he thinks. My BMI is like 36 I think and I do not have any health issues other than the chub.

Not true they do require you to have a 6 month diet plan ... im going through it right now they just changed there policy as of 10-5-11 and it doesnt state it online but i just got in a huge fight with the b***h on the phone about how it is now 6 months of failed attemps of weight loss DOCUMENTED by a DR. in order to get approved plus you have to meet all the other quilifications! 40 BMI without a co- morb or 35 -39.9 with a co-morb.... good luck seems like im the only one thats been getting screwed around tho everyone else says tricares so easy to work with ! for me they havnt been its been hell!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
