Hello from Germany ... will be in TX soon

Recommended Posts

Hello from Germany!

My name is Irene, I am 43 years old. I was born and raised in Germany and I am still living there. I got my gastric banding (lap band) in July, 2004 at a weight of 332 pounds. Since then I have lost about 132 pounds and came down from a size 28/30 to a 14/16. I do not miss one single pound and I am very very happy with my decision to undergo weight loss surgery.

One of the members of this board referred it to me, because I have posted in a german forum that I am going to move to TX for good this fall. So I am very happy that she told me about this forum so that I can get in touch with bandsters in the US, especially the Austin/Taylor area where I am going to live.

I will leave you with that for the moment and browse a bit through the threads. If there´s anything you would like to know about me, just ask

Have an awesome day everybody!

Texasbluebonnet - where are you moving to? What area of Texas? I'm in the DFW area, Keller to be exact. I'm originally from Illinois but we've been down here for about 5 years now. A different world but it's home now! Let me know where you're going to end up! Good luck! Laura

Horray for you and your great weight loss Irene. I am not banded yet, but hope to be within the next couple months. Sounds like you have breezed through this with little or no problems. That is the stuff dreams are made of.

I lived in Mainz, Germany for 5 years and traveled all of Germany, Switzerland, France, etc. I especially love Bavaria. I still have wonderful memories of trips to King Ludwig's Castle. It is like a second home to me, and I'm anxious to go back there to visit the many friends I met there.

My dad was born in Germany and I used to speak it fluently. Unfortunately it's been years and Ich habe meine Hausaufgaben leider nicht gemacht!!:)

Irene -

Welcome and big CONGRATS on that weight loss! I grew up in Austin - it is a great place to live! I hope you'll like it there. I'm in the DFW, TX area now -- KELLER to be exact (like Laura - small world!). The scenery and hill country in Austin is just beautiful (for Texas anyway!). We'll look forward to talking with you!

Kim

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
