Am I Loosing Enough Weight Fast Enough?

Recommended Posts

Before surgery, and 10 day dier, I weighed 357. I had my surgery June 9, 2011. After surgery, I weighed in at 346 pds. As of Novemeber 28, 2011, I went to have a fill. I weighed 329. I had lost 4 pounds in a month. I am very concerned because I am about to reach my 6 month mark, and I have only lost 17 to 20 pounds give or take. Other people say they can tell, but I swear....17/20 pounds is not alot to me. The reason I say 17/20 because the nurse said 20 since surgery based on her weigh ins. Hmmmmmm...what else can I do?

Here is my advice, 2 things. One is to eat a lowcarb/low fat/high protien diet. I eat eggs or a protien shake for Breakfast, lean meat and a non-starchy veggie for lunch and dinner. I snack on a 1/4c nuts 2-3 times a day. I also include 2 cheese sticks in one of those Snacks. Very rote, but it works for me. The other piece is working out. If your not doing it already, I highly reccomend you start. Start out slow and gradually increase your duration/intensity. You can do it!

I think exercise is key! Even just going for a short walk every day will help. Then each day just walk a little further to increase your stamina. You will see the weight just start dropping off!

I really agree with vlp and dawn. Exercize will help get your metabolism going and be conscious of not only how much you are eating but what you are eating. My diet sounds very similar to vlp. I also wear a bodymedia armband that really helps keep me in check. I plug it up every nite and download it and it tells me how many calories I have burned during the day and I input my food intake and it tells me the calorie deficit for the day. I know that if I want to lose 2 pounds a week then I need a deficit of 1000 calories a day. If I download it and see that I am not going to achieve that, I jump on my treadmill or I lighten up on dinner and evening snack and do what I need to do to reach my daily goal. I have really enjoyed using it to help keep me on track.

I am interested in knowing more about the bodymedia armband. Do they have a website? I want to know exactly how it works

4 lbs per month is a good rate of loss. The band's average is 1-2 pounds per week. When I was actively losing, my average was 3/4 of a pound per week. I wasn't happy with the rate, but it was coming off.

We always wish it were faster, but the #s are going down! It's a good thing.

You're doing good. I was banded June 20, 2011. My last fill was two and a half weeks ago and at that visit, I was told that I was right on track with my weight loss, that slow was better. I told her I was frustrated and she said not to be, that if it came off slow it has a better chance of staying off and I in turn have a better success story.

So don't be discouraged. Any loss is good. Don't try to rush it. Remind me of this soon, would ya??

Hang in there. It's not a race to lose :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
