When did your fills really start to work for you?

Recommended Posts

I think I'm confused as well. If my doc injects saline into my band, how would I *not* experience restriction? Why would there be a delay in experiencing restriction?

Thanks for any answers. I'm not due for my first fill for another 5 weeks, but I'd like to get a better picture of what the experience is like.

I know, it's weird. I have had 2 fills and do not feel any difference. I wish I were one of the lucky ones who felt a difference right away. I don't know how it can happen that I have 2ccs in a 4cc band and not notice anything.

Tina, its hard to believe isn't it. I wonder if the brain needs to catch up to the tummy when folks start to feel restriction days / weeks after a fill.

What my doctor told me is the first fill you may not feel b/c it is so small, and he is correct, I don't feel any restriction (yes, meaning I can eat like before banding, the food feels like it goes strait down).

Stephanie lucky you !!! I had my first 1cc fill on feb 8th and feel nothing. I'm hoping the next fill will give me something to work with.

Monica, your next fill might be the one, you may only need .1 or something that small to hit that sweet spot. Let us know how it goes.

I have had 2 fills, the first one I felt nothing. The second one, I felt nothing for about 2 weeks. I even called my doctor because I didn't feel anything right away. They told me to wait the 2 weeks and sure enough it started working after the 2 weeks. I lost 10.4 pounds in the 5.5 weeks in between my second fill and my appt. I did not get a third fill because they felt I was doing good.

Total of 4 fills (all with flouro). First one was 2.0 CC's. Could see restriction on the x-ray and feel it immediately. Second fill was .5 cc's, same thing, immediate restriction but went away after 3 or 4 weeks. 3rd fill was .5 cc's again (now up to 3 cc's) and had great restriction but noticed a tightening around that time of the month, 4th fill just last week, immediate restricted sensations like prolonged gurgling when drinking, full after 1/2 to 1 cup of solids, I stay full for 4 to 5 hrs.

I am glad I am one of the ones that can feel restriction right away. Otherwise it would be so frustrating to have to wait! The key really is to know whether or not you have restriction and get a fill accordingly. My doctor was really good about giving me a fill when I thought I needed one. He went by what I was saying and feeling which is a good thing. :thumb::clap2:

anyone who has been banded a while need advise: I have no fill in right now and I'm gaining weight a lot was down to 135 last August now 180 and going up. I'm trying to not get a fill and eat right but not working!!!! some days i can eat everything (last night a big burger and onion rings) but the day b4 i threw up everything. I was going to go for a fill but then started throwing up everything, My sweet spot was 1.9cc but now I'm afraid to get a fill to start back to that sweet spot and upset that I'm gaining like crazy and feel like i have no control over portions and food is everywhere. They said my stoma and stomach swells a lot (on me) and I haven't had a fill in over a month. I keep going up and down now, and I know that is so unhealthy, since that is why i got this band in the first place, was to stop the yo yoing. I now wish i had the gastric instead, (i know i didn't mean that) HELP ANY ADVISE

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
