Lapband With Plication 6 Weeks Post Op Cant Get Enough Calories

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I got my lapband on 10/25 with plication. I have been on regular foods for about 3 weeks but because if the plication I cant eat enough calories. I haven't eaten more than 1000 calories since and most days i'm closer to 700. I am exercising daily, 40 mins of heavy sweating on the elliptical....but I'm not losing weight. I'm losing inches because my clothes fit better but the dang scale isnt moving. I'm down 26lbs since my pre op visit...but I'm only down 6lbs in the past 4 weeks. I feel like I should just keep going and it will eventually come off, but I have to admit I'm starting to get a little frustrated. The majority of my calories are Protein, Im getting about 60g a day, I feel like the only way to get my calories up to 1200 would be to add, fats and carbs, and I dont want to do that!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Lisa

Lisa, My doctor recommends less than 1000 calories a day, so you are right in line with his plan. For the first 2 months I had a hard time getting in over 700 but after that, it seemed to loosen up a bit and I have been able to eat more. Regretably. I wish I was still in that unable to eat more than a few bites stage. Your scale will move, just give it time. Good luck to you.

It's different with everyone I also had the placation with my lap band, but I'm eating around 1200 I can actually eat about 7-8 oz of food at one sitting. My nutritionalst told me o bump my calories to the 1200 and I'm now averaging about 2-4 lb a week depending on the exercise. Don't give up and hang in there

I understand the inches but no pounds. I'm 11 months post op and for the past 3 months or so weight loss has been really slow. I plateau for a number of weeks, drop a like 4 or 5 pounds in 2 weeks, then plateau again. I work out 6 days a week and I'm still losing inches. So I know I'm still doing right, but it's annoying.

Remember that muscle weighs more than fat. Increased Protein intake, combined with increased physical activity would explain the change in inches and not the scale. You are toning your body... that is great! Keep up the good work and remember good things come to those who wait!

I had lap band with plication in May of 2011 and I weighed 239lbs. and I now weigh 162lbs. and I am still losing slow. I eat what I want to just a lot less of it. I can't eat much at a meal. I eat crackers and some chips between meals. I drink power aid zero a lot and drink Slim Fast. I feel great and I don't have to take a lot of my meds any more. Has anyone had this surgery that has a urostomy? I don't have a bladder and they did this surgery on me. Oh and I am 5 feet 9 inches tall. Thanks Sha

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
