Newly Banded 11/18

Recommended Posts

I am a 39 year old overweight woman who has battled weight issues since grade school. While always active, I never felt comfortable in my own body. I was referred to Dr Carl Weiss of Auburn by a relative who underwent gastric bypass and couldn't be happier. Well, maybe that isn't accurate. I'm happy with my current weight loss. I started my journey back on July 12th of this year with Dr. Weiss. Since that date, I've lost a total of 35 pounds. I'm super excited about that, but have been having some problems since surgery. I did the liquid diet for the first 5 days and since I was feeling 'beat up' I was not interested in eating or drinking so the liquid diet was fine. I did fall into the trap of not having enough Fluid and started to dehydrate about day 3. After talking with the doctors office, this was quickly corrected and I started feeling a lot better. The second stage started on Thanksgiving and I can't tell you how hard that was. Thankfully two tablespoons of mashed potatoes and some gravy with shredded turkey was sufficient to fill me up and I felt like I was still part of the family get together and dinner. I have a lot of questions about this first few weeks but will post them separately.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
