Lap Band Surgery 11/3 Alittle Scared!!

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Ann and I a newbie!! I'm having my surgery on Wednesday 11/30. I'm mostly scared about the port and how

it is going to feel after the surgery. Does it feel awkard, can you feel it when you are laying on your stomach and does the pain/discomfort

ever go away? I'm excited to have the surgery and regain my life back. I'm looking forward to moving and feeling better.

Hi Ann. I'm Kate. I am a newbie too. My surgery is Dec 2. I'm excited about getting to it, sad about giving up my friend "food", and mad cause I blew my 2 week crash diet at thanksgiving. Trying to talk myself into getting it together and try hard this week to get a few more pounds off before the big day. Did you have to do the crash diet these past two weeks? I'm assuming that you live near Fargo, ND. I'm in Minnesota. What thoughts are you having presurgery?

Kate

Hi Ann, no the port (after it heals) isn't very noticeable, of course everyone is different. Mine is well under my skin and

I can feel it, but it's not intrusive at all. I'm not a stomach sleeper, but I don't think it would have been a problem.

For the first week or two, while you're still healing, it'll be a little tender, but after that you'll be fine. Kate and I are

going to loose 10 lbs by Dec. 2, are you in? I blew my diet yesterday and need to get back where I belong.

I 'm redoing our kitchen and carried 10 sixty lb boxes of tile into the house, most of them against my stomach,

right over my port and never even noticed it. So I don't think you have anything to worry about,

Hi, All.

I am not a newbie at this point, but I can tell you that I AM a stomach sleeper, and slept on my stomach the night I had the surgery. No problem. I can feel my port, slightly, but it cannot be seen by others. My Internist wanted to feel it, because she had never felt one. (I have been with this doctor for over 30 years, so it didn't bother me a bit, and I had told her I was going to have the surgery - self pay).

Both of you are going to be thrilled with your surgery. I do not think I was worried at all, because I wanted it so badly. It is easy to get accustomed to smaller meals, and I truly don't remember pain - other than gas pains - which did not last for many days. Walking helps. This time of year (except maybe for Black Friday) is great for walking. Best of luck, and keep us all posted on your surgery and your successes!

I had my surgery on 10.14.11, and it is by far the best thing I've ever done, and it's changed my life already. The slight discomfor I have had, is occasionally I get a pain in my right side where the port is attached to the muscle. I was told by my Doctor's office this is common after surgery for a while, because it is still sensitive and healing. I am a stomach sleeper and do feel the port sometimes, especially if I've just eaten or drank something and lay down but it doesn't hurt and its not a problem. I also can feel it sometimes if I put my hand on my stomach. However, it doesn't bother me at all, and I'm glad its there because I know what a saving grace it is to have had the surgery and see the scale go down instead of up.

I think you will be very happy with the procedure. I did get the Allergan band which I recommend. I felt it was designed better, and more streamlined than the other kind, and I've also heard its used more for women because its smaller and not as big as the other one.

Good luck, and keep us posted!!

I had my surgery on oct 14, 2011. I am also a stomach sleeper my port is on my right side of my stomach. The 3 night after surgery I had rolled over in my sleep and hurt myself at the port sight. After that I was just careful when I rolled over and no pain after that. It does feel weird when touching it, but you can't c any bumps or anything like that at the port sight. Good luck with your surgery....keep us informed of your progress.

Thanks so much for all your words of wisdom and encouragement. I'm very excited and looking forward to my new outlook on life. And yes I have been on the

pre surgery diet. My diet consists of 3 shakes a day and a lean cusine type meal under 300 calories a day. So at Thanksgiving I did have some turkey and a veggie and cranberries.

Which I think was about 300 calories. So I'm down about 11lbs already!!! Good Luck to you all also.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
