Noticed Lap Band Only Works For A Couple Days

Recommended Posts

so ive been getting fills on time with my doctors schedule and he always says im doing really good which is frustrating because the band is not helping! even though i am losing weight ive noticed something the band only works for a couple days after the fill then im back to eating pretty much normal again. i feel no restriction or very little and no there is no leaks or anything because every time i get a fill he pulls out whats in there and its always the same as last time. so then for the whole month i have to constantly struggle to diet and watch what i eat so next month i go with a loss instead of a gain. has any one else experienced that and know why its not working?

How much do you have in the band took me 6 months and 10.7 CC's to get restriction. The fills can take a couple weeks to take effect. I would say the first 6 months is all willpower. Do you have a digital food scale? Measure out your Protein and when that is done don't eat any more protein. Fill the rest of the way with low cal veggies.

This is entirely normal - the thing is as you approach perfect restriction, your fills will last longer and longer, and wont seem to "stop working". But if you're like me, I've ALWAYS had that experience - great restriction for a few days and then it lessens - but what it lessens to does increase over time. Eventually you get to the point where you wont need fills for a year or more.

When you say the fills only last a few days, that's the swelling that you feel, then it relaxes, and your back to HUNGRY. This is Normal if you do the Fill after Fill Process.

There are a couple of things that you can do if you want to change technique.

!. is when you go in for a fill tell them to give you a glass of Water, and as they are filling you, you will swallow the water, and let them know when you can't swallow any more, then they will pull some out, when the water drops through your filled. This is done sitting up or standing.

2. Is filled under Fluoroscope. They will look for your fill line, and fill you rite to it. That's it, and your done.

These are options compared to the traditional way, that work.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
