Port Pain- Banded 11/22

Recommended Posts

I was banded using the spider procedure which means that I have one tiny incision and another that's about 2 inches long. I don't seem to be having any pain at those sites but it feels terrible where I think my port is located. Is this normal? The pain is during deep breaths but mostly when getting in and out of bed. Is it bc the sewed the port to muscle. Please help. Ps I also had a hiatal hernia fixed.

I was also banded on 11/22. The area where I believe my port to be (still swollen so hard to tell for sure) is the area that gives me the most pain. Like you, I only hurt when moving around, otherwise I am fine. I have 5 incisions. Did the hospital give you the breathing gadget to use to measure your deep breathing? I used mine the first day and all day yesterday and today I can feel a 100% improvement on how deep I can breathe without pain. I would say that you need to practice deep breathing as much as you can. If you're still in pain tomorrow, call the doctor office just to make sure.

Hi. I was banded yesterday,11/23. My incisions are fine.. A little itchy today, but that just means they are healing. I have 5 incisions and the bigger one that the port went through is pretty swollen and sore. Nothing excruciating. The CO2 that they filled me up with was by far the worst. It's much better today. It hurt to breath (still does) because of all the air in my chest cavity. I was also given the breathing apparatus to practice my deep breathing.

My surgeon said they they sew the port right to your muscle, so that would definitely cause more pain than the other incisions. Good luck to you.. This part isnt much fun, but in a few weeks we should be all healed and feeling great!

You are probably feeling pain from the hernia repair, also. Take it easy except for sipping, walking and resting.

My port site was extremely sore for 1 to 2 months. The more active I was the worse it got. It also aggravated it if I wore pants with a snug waistband. Still does ) =

I was also banded on 11/22 and my port incision is still really tender. My surgeon told me this was normal and to put an ice pack on it and take some children's ibuprofen for the pain.

wow- i hope this kind of pain doesn't last for 1 to 2 months. I'm going back to work on Tuesday and it would be absolute hell to get up from my chair ten times a day feeling like this! I think it's starting to feel a little less intense already. I'll keep everyone else who is going through the pain in my thoughts. This wasn't as easy of a procedure as I was led to believe. I guess everyone is different though. :) Everyone keep your head up

I was banded 10-28 and my site is still tender. I also had a hernia repair as well. I get my first fill next Thursday, I am a little nervous!!! I notice when I eat and I get full, left side gets sore. So I have had to take it easy.

I was banded on 10/26 and still have mild soreness near the port. But I was finally able to sleep on my stomach for the first time this week :) But lots of movement throughout the day and I'll be sore at night. It just takes awhile for your muscle in that area to heal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
